Another win to make it three from three so far, good.

The game had fairly few real chances, we had the most of them, Watford had a couple of moments, overall felt we did have just about enough control on proceedings and were relatively untroubled.

Performance I thought was average at best though.

That was our weakest game yet in terms of our pressing/pressure on the ball, and compactness. Often left it up to individuals to defend one vs. one which we just about managed, not sure that’s wise against better teams. We did have plenty of fight from our defence/midfield though and they worked hard yet again and got a toe in or on a couple of occasions a vital block when our goal was most at threat.

With the ball I thought our play was pretty basic yet again to be honest. Didn’t really get what we were trying to do, with our shape and playing so narrowly (especially first half) I thought this aided Watford’s defensive efforts, and seemingly using Tanganga as an outball was a bit puzzling. Also thought at times there were too many hopeful diagonals or straight long balls, instead of trying to play our way through.

Admittedly it was against a weaker team in midweek, but I did prefer the way we lined up for that game rather than what we are doing in league matches. The midfield of one holding player, two players comfortable as those roaming playmakers between the lines and in the half spaces taking the ball under pressure and on the turn, and then two wingers providing width. I felt we had many more options to our play, and tbh is more of the sort of football/tactics I want to see. Today we went back to (for large spells) a more disciplined flat midfield three and very narrow forwards, this narrow 4-3-3 might make sense and unleash the potential of Son/Moura/Bergwijn etc. when playing on the counter attack, but against the teams more inclined to sit back and pack the defence I don’t see it having the same effectiveness.

Have to say I think midfield is an issue here also – I think really Skipp and Hojbjerg both want to play the same position, sitting with the game in front of them, and Alli also isn’t comfortable taking the ball on the half turn under pressure and prefers to drop deep, too deep usually, to get it and be facing the play and to do things at his own languid tempo. It’s not that taxing for the opposition with everything happening miles from goal, and in front of their defensive lines. All of them to their credit are working their bollocks off for the cause so far, but not sure the balance is right or I want to see that selection for the whole season.

Some good things are happening so far – application and effort has improved, fitness levels look they have greatly improved, certain players you can see the confidence coming back and are looking rejuvenated, We’ve managed to get wins and points on the board to build confidence and momentum in this early part of the season. Would like to see what we do with the ball at our feet take some steps forward soon though hopefully.

Complaining about atmosphere is a tad better than complaining about shit performances and manager decisions.

I think the team lacks a controlling force in midfield

We may not control the ball but I feel we control the space, forcing teams to try to play wide.

Which protects the two CBs through the middle and helps gets us the clean sheets which is the difference between this season and last.

We need to find a couple of players who can offer a physical presence whilst being comfortable on the ball but there aren't that many out there.

3 wins now not playing particularly well is a great start. We need to find our way whilst it’s going well- momentum is key. Keep building on the positives and correct the errors. I’m enjoying watching the defending its confident and solid. Rest of em needs to find a balance which was developing in the first two games but with Kane’s return its changed the dynamics. It’s all good let’s hope we mature as s team and march on.

Not one that will be found in this window.

I keep reading that we are the only team with a 100% record in the Premiership.

Just checked, we are the only 100% team in all 4 divisions.

We look an organised team - defensively more sound.
The pressing vs City was very good, all across the front line there was pressure at the right times and the ability to hit on the counter.
Realise Watford play totally different game but with Kane back so our emphasis changed. He was now the focal point and the press to counter was not so good until Lucas came on.
The dynamics of the team still need to be worked on, and we miss the ability to hit creative passes when forward runs are made. Today we still missed that midfielder who can run with a ball and slip a pass - which should be where GLC comes in.
Against teams like Watford, and not looking to deride them, but should we need to play both Skipp and PEH? Swapping one adds thar creativity, its not that GLC doesnt get stuck in
Still very much a work in progress but at least this season you can see progress.

Not the most exciting watch but defensively solid. another 3 points. another clean sheet.

PEH knowing he has skipp covering him has given him license to get forward. Me likey.

Kane anonymous for much of the game. Still getting up to speed.
Once internationals over Kane’s fitness should be up to speed which should be good timing for the next batch of games.

Hey @Shepspurs Not sure if you realise but Spurs are top of the league, with 100% premier record and with no goals conceded.

Enjoy whilst we can - we were top under Jose too and we all know how that turned out.

ill admit that ive only seen highlights of the Wolves and Watford game but what is worrying for me is that unless ive missed it we dont seem to be able to create chances via good passing or interchanges. All our chances seem to come from a set piece or nicking the ball and counter attacking. Obviously counter attacking football can be deadly and quite entertaining but id love to see a bit of swagger and a plan in our attacks. You can see that Wolves even though theyve somehow lost all 3 games 1-0, the attacking patterns are there and its only a matter of time before they give a team a right pasting.

I’m enjoying being top. But I’m being fair, I’d be killing Jose if he was in charge of that. I even missed the goal because I went for a piss. Abysmal performance against a terrible team.

What? Get your eyes checked mate. Apples and pears....

Scrappy game but three points is three points. Skipp continues to impress in midfield, while the back four look so much more cohesive defensively. Things just didn’t quite come off in our forward play, which happens. Could so easily have been 3-0.

Just got back from the game and have a few thoughts....

We controlled the game reasonably well, but moved the ball far too slowly for my liking. Plenty of occasions where if the ball had been released quicker, or passed on quicker, we could have opened Watford up a bit more, and too many times the player on the ball either didn't see the next pass to create the opening, or dithered and the opportunity was snuffed out.

Bergwijn seemed to be the only one willing to run at their FBs, and caused a few problems for them when he did. Moura did the same when he came on, and should probably of started IMO.

Not sure we needed both Hoijberg and Skipp to start. Felt maybe LoCelso could have played in a 3 with either of those two, plus another. We definitely needed someone with more of a forward passer and/or someone that could break the lines from midfield.

Other than all that, didnt think Watford offered much of a threat, and at no point did we come under much pressure.
