It would certainly put to the test the old chestnut that 'players only want to play for CL clubs'. I think we'll hear a lot about the 'I want to be part of this project' or 'Newcastle have always been one of the biggest clubs in the world and I'm glad to be here' or 'I always used to watch them as a boy and dream about playing for them one day'.

'oh, and the wonga'.
Precisely. I mean I don't know why they even bother any more. Just come out and say it:

"I wanted to make more money."

Watching something the other week and John Hall (the Newcastle chairman who brought Keegan in in the 90s and stayed on until selling out to Ashley) was talking about the effect of Abramovich arriving at Chelsea. Overnight he knew Newcastle could forget about competing in this new world. Every player they wanted doubled in price, wage demands doubled and trebled. He sold his 40% stake in the club to Ashley for £55m a couple of years later.

Now, if they want to, Newcastle will be able to do the same as Chelsea did. But in my mind, same as with City, there'll be an asterisk next to anything they win. Couldn't get there on their own merits. Sold out to a disgusting, criminal regime.

Sidenote: The Prem League history thing on BBC at the moment covered Man United supporters blocking Murdoch taking over the club in the late 90s. Because they didn't want Sky and they didn't want Murdoch running their club. It's to Newcastle's shame that literally no one has protested against this. In fact they're dancing in the streets.
Football was a very different landscape in the late 90’s. Man U fans could be a little more discerning back then as they were only rivalled by the scum at that time!

Liverpool supporters would never, ever have Murdock

This owner actually has the wealth to buy every team in the Prem and tell them to let Newcastle win every game. It’s mad!

I know how much of a spoilt little **** I sound but fuck why Newcastle. I don't think I will ever see us win the league in my lifetime. Newcastle will do it within the next 5-10 years.

Still can’t be used as an excuse if we don’t win! It will still be the same players who have won 7 out of there last 37 games playing for Newcastle on pitch!

Said it before with the run of games we have coming up this is must win game for Nuno. Lose this one going into the West Ham and Man Utd games will make life very hard

Logically you are right but the atmosphere in the ground will be totally different now. The place will be jumping and ,as we know, that can make a huge difference. Add to that, presumed absence of Romero, Lo Celso, Sanchez, maybe Son and I'm far less confident that we will go there and get a result now.

We wouldnt. Whenever we go through a bad spell the 'thick' come shinning through.
Had to laugh, caught 2 mins of TS today and they played a few clips of Newcastle fans that had rang in. One wanted Jose lol. Please God make it so. Another wanted to sack Brucie now and get in Keegan!!! I shit you not lol. Only moronic retards call up TS. 9 out of 10 Spurs fans on there spew out such idiotic crap its embarrassing.

Oh Alan, I used to like you but given your previous comments about ‘money clubs’ now you’ve come out with this….

Trust me the majority will moan until it's their club that gets bankrolled. Football/sport is full of hypocrites. The problem for me is how very few related to Newcastle have actually acknowledged the story behind their owners or have an issue with it.

I would actually respect them more if they did. It's how they earn their wage at the end of the day. I remember our own Assou-Ekotto saying he saw it as a job.

Even if this was true I can separate some shady business practices from murdering people that are critical of you.
I respectfully disagree. Shady business practices can ruin lives too. Just look at what Joe Lewis is doing in Argentina.

Edit: Im not sure how many people are aware of this, but people have been killed protesting Joe Lewis' land grab in Patagonia. This link makes for an uneasy read.
