Today was all about getting 3 points to get things started. First half we were terrible but thankfully we have a coach now who can turn things around mid game. I was shocked by the lack of subs initially but Conte knows best and he worked with a fair few of them a lot over the last 2 weeks, so he has faith in who he is selecting.

I’m looking forward to the next few games and hopefully seeing a few more players being given some game time, especially Sanchez, Sessegnon and Gil.

Earlier in the season when we went a goal down our heads dropped badly. Players were probably looking over at Nuno and getting nothing positive from him and could never raise their game. Conte got them fired up and they came back from a poor first half. We’d probably have lost that 3-0 without Conte…

He would have had a great deal of the squad on side the minute he walked in the door. Then his speech. Then seeing him work. Then his reaction today after the game would have really got some of the players hooked.

This is great. But now, we really need to root out those who could potentially cause unrest because it happened with Jose (to a lesser degree).

A good deal of the squad were all saying how great it was for Jose to be there (Toby, Kane, Hugo, etc) by the end most had turned against him. A lot of that was Jose s fault but there would have been some players sniping away because they weren't getting picked.

In January and next summer, it's important we don't allow something like that to manifest. Anyone showing signs of not being part of the team has to be sold and replaced with commited players otherwise we'll be heading into a similar scenario next year.

Maybe i'm being pessimistic but have a feeling United mighr come sniffing around Conte when Ole gets sacked.
I'm hoping he doesn't get his head turned by them. They have a history of sniping from us..... Carrick, Berbatov, Teddy etc.
If Conte was interested in the Utd job he would have turned us down and waited. It was hardly a shock that Ole got sacked.

Exactly. points were vital.

For me its just a case of digging out as many points as possible up until Jan now. Just make sure we are in contention.

Think that was very much down to the change in formation rather than fitness, though. They were bound to already be super fit after a Conte pre-season.

They stopped conceding pretty much from the exact moment he changed from a back 4 to 3 atb and immediately went on a mad 13 game winning run which won them the league.
I agree. I didn't mention fitness in my post at all, so I'm not sure why you think I was suggesting it was down to fitness?

Based on Conte's performance so far, i.e. 4 points from 2 games, if he keeps it up we are already on course for 67 points, which would have got us 4th place in 2019/20 or 2020/21. I'm quietly confident of a CL place next year once he builds up a head of steam.

Still not sure about the 3-4-3 formation.

The main tactic was to find Moura in the middle to get past the press, play some quick passes with the front three & the WB's bombing forwards providing width.
The front three are way to similar in positions as shown in the image below and often trying to dribble past the teammates, ffs. A few times when Kane received the ball Moura was in his fucking way, and even a few times Son & Moura just stood watching not moving at all for Kane to find a pass. Moura & Son are not exactly intelligent players and in that 3-4-3 system we need that.

It really didn't work against Leeds as they man-marked our front three and pressed the shit out of us, they were right up our heels all the time.

It was mostly Dier finding those passes with the help of the CM's which I think doesn't do enough in that system (and no I dont think it's only because they're bad). They're playing like holding CM's with a clear goal to win the ball back or protect the back three when one of the wide-CB's goes forward. And often they were like forwards going in the way of the other.

As for the CB's. The middle spot with Dier is very clear, always look for a pass and even trying to run with the ball to do it. I like that a lot and Dier had a very good game. The wide-cbs have to have a bit more to them - else we just need better players - but mosly they're not doing much and when I watch us play, they're never in the spotlight. They need to be more brave with the ball and agressive off the ball imo.

Loved Conte’s leadership at the end when he whipped up the crowd. He knows everyone has lost hope and he’s going to lift us all up. Just what we needed.

If Levy can support him with quality players we’ll be back up there soon. A great central midfielder is vital.

If this is what Antonio is like beating a weakened Leeds team then he’ll need to be sedated for a cup final or making Champions League and even that probably won’t work.

His passion, let alone the technical brilliance of changing it up for the second half, is astounding and completely infectious.

I really love this guy.

Any players not running for him don't deserve to be played.

Finally a man in the dugout who can instill fear to the opposition just by his aura and know-how.

I am waiting patiently for the CL nights again against the big boys...
I am waiting patiently to compete with the big 4 again. I hope we can pull off some wins against Chelsea and Liverpool.

For all the euphoria the first half was terrible the tactics were awful passive and a continuation of what we had seen under the last two managers if not worse.

The second half he pushed the full backs much higher up the pitch which made it more difficult for Leeds to press and dominate, the two wide centre halfs both were braver and pushed on, I thought Davies was pretty good . The midfield is almost vacated in the system (Hojberg yesterday goal apart had a stinker which didn't help) and used to recycle the ball which I don't like much but

I think there needs to be more interplay in the team which might come and given that he is asking for vastly different combinations than previously and judging by yesterday the wide two wide centre backs need to have a big understanding with their full backs both going forward and defensively and that seems a huge part of his game plan (pretty much what Sheffield United did isn't it) . I think against a better side you would be picked off and struggle to pick up meaningful posession but you can only play against the team your up against and its early days yet

I think overall yesterday a 6 or 7 out of ten he had to change things and he did nothing earth shattering was needed and Leeds are a good side to change things against they only play one way and that helped Tottenham yesterday other sides might have been more inclined to sit back and pick us off after taking a lead but not them. The changes allowed us to push them back and they weren't able to dominate like they did in the first half . As we all know there is lots of work for him to do

Love his passion and the way he got the crowd going late on, he knows the little things can make a huge difference.

I really hope we support him in January, we are crying out for a midfield general, if he gets one, we could really start to become a team who others fear again. Got a long run ahead until we get to January though, lets hope we can build momentum.

@Gassin's finest Probably getting them ready for an extra training session

As you say a lot of that was Jose’s fault and his dinosaur tactics

I think with Conte and Paratici combined and with D Levy hopefully learning from past errors and appreciating the squad is deficient in many areas player power is now minimal for the next 2-3 years at least

It also seems like Conte will give some chance to those showing effort and move the talented but lazy cohort out faster

Give it time and possibly some new signings.

If not Conte will likely switch to 3-5-2.
