I have really enjoyed elements of this F1 season, however I can't stand the inconsistent and poor judgements that supposedly experts make. The end of this afternoon's race although exciting leaves a sour taste in everyones mouth. Seems to have been done for ratings and audience rather than sporting merit.

We all wanted to see a race to the wire, but the safety car effectively ended any real chance of that. A single lap shoot out after one team had pitted and the other hadnt was not on in my opinion.

JV is obviously a very talented driver and will win championships but his disregard for his competitors does not sit right with me.

Masi said 'it's called Motor Sport - let them race'. And basically the ruling is that the race director has carte blanche to do what he wants regardless of the rules - in which case why not allow them to race under equal conditions? Max had a new set of slicks and Lewis had an old set of hard compounds, that was never going to be a "race".

First of all Race Control said the back markers would not be allowed to pass, I think Masi thought that would ensure one last lap and give Max his chance. Then once Mr Haliwell spoke to him he must have realised that would leave Max with some back markers between him and Lewis so Masi changed it to allowing only enough back markers to pass to ensure Red Bull got that one lap up against Mercedes. A complete farce.

Last week we had Red Bull getting messages before Mercedes, this week we get Masi making up the rules to help Red Bull's chances and then changing his mind to improve those chances. That's not sport. Everyone saying "we should stress that Red Bull have done nothing wrong" as though Mercedes have! Mercedes strategy would have been guided by the rules that are normally applied, which is to allow all the back markers through. Lewis had the faster car on the day, pure and simple but the FIA wanted a new champ.

Honestly, had Max come out the traps and taken the kind of lead Lewis had and won the race, I'd say well done, over the season clearly the best man won - but it doesn't feel that way and if I were Max I'd almost prefer not to win than win in a tainted way. He's a great driver and will win plenty in his career - I wouldn't be surprised if he overtakes Hamilton's 7 titles - but today he / his car was second best and did not deserve the win.

Lewis showed class and self-control afterwards, got to admit I never thought I'd say that about him. The guy must be seething inside.

I'll be honest, I'm quite enjoying the massive amounts of piss this is boiling ?

Still feel sorry for Lewis, but also feel a bit sorry for Max too, as I imagine it's going to be viewed as a tainted championship in the years to come.

Weird thing to enjoy tbh.

People get wound up by incompetence shocker....still, if that’s what gets your pecker twitching, knock one out mate :ROFLMAO:
Haha I do get it, but I think as a neutral it's been fun watching the fallout from it all. If it was down to me, I'd have red flagged it and had the drivers go out for a 4 lap sprint race on whichever tyres they liked.

Honestly, anything other than what happened would’ve been fairer.
Hamilton vs Max in a 100 yard barefoot sprint to the checkered flag would’ve been less ridiculous than what we witnessed.
As a fan I just feel robbed.

It is a complete shit show. Whatever they do now won't change that.

The argument that Masi wanted this decided through racing and therefore his changing the rules was justified is just bollocks in my opinion. The racing was done, Hamilton had earned his 11 second advantage through racing, he had shown his superority over the vast majority of the Grand Prix through racing. If it had to finish under a safety car, then so be it, the racing was done and he was always going to win from that point, until the safety car.

To change the rules on a whim and gift the title to Verstappen in this way is just ridiculous. This isn't sport.

Spot on. Think Hamilton probably should of been made to give the place back on the first lap but his race pace was far superior to max’s.. Do think he’d of still driven off into the distance

Has this been discussed? Was there any reason why Sainz had to drive through backmarkers when he was in third place and worthy of challenging for the race win?

So much for racing.

Like many Americans I've watched F1 for the first time this season. I don't know enough to have an opinion but it felt very NASCAR'ish where rules are adjusted to create a fun finish.

Doesnt NASCAR do green, white, checkered?

Yes. Among 30 other varients over the years.
Cant help but feel a green white checker would have worked here. Or a stop & start. Someone said it earlier but a red & a stop & start would have been the best way to go. Both cars get new tires & battle it out for a few laps.

Didn't even think of that! With Hamilton's tyres he could have taken second easily or if max hadn't taken the lead so quickly challenge max also.

Will just be added to what Mercedes take to the courts.

Everything I've read is usually the lapped cars are allowed to pass and then the safety car comes in the following lap. Not just the lapped cars who impact the title race and starts the same lap. What's the point of rules if the director just makes it up for what makes the best tv?

Still shocked how calm Lewis was after the race. I’d of done a Kimi and just stopped the car near the yachts and fucked off
