Can't believe people are moaning about this, it was the most controlled performance we've put in for absolutely yonks. All it lacked was the most important thing which is of course end product.

Fix the defence and make us hard to beat first. Big tick.

Then bring in some signings and fix the attack. Work very much in progress.

Today was a great big leap forward in my book.

Exactly, had we have scored that goal in the 6th minute rather than the 96th we would probably have won 3/4-0 as they would have had to step out a bit more. We are maybe 2 quality signings away from being able to cut open teams like that more easily (definitely a proper RWB and probably a creative CM/AM). From what I saw Watford didn't even get near us, we were getting absolutely dicked away at Crystal Palace just a few short months ago.

Wow we really needed that result. Not a good game at all. We shouldn’t struggle against such bad sides that sit back.

come on Levy, it’s time to open that cheque book and give Conte the players he needs.

I still think Royal can grow into his position, agree his crosses were dross.
I certainly think he has a place in the squad for certain games. I just don't believe he's got enough attacking quality to play the bulk of games we will play in the the Prem.

Robbie Mustoe on North America NBC asked if Spurs deserved the win? He goes “pffftt, just about. Didn’t think they played very well….”

Bloody wanker

But he's right, we were very poor in the final 1/3.

Very few chances, we're a lot better team against opponents that we can counter.

It makes me very happy inside that I know Arsenal fans are having a very shit first day of the New Year. First they get a red card, then conceded & loses at the last minutes then we win at the last minutes

Happy New Years :)

Don't know about that.

No we don't. We need 2 or 3 in of actual quality. We certainly don't need a squad overhaul.
I'm gonna keep to squad Trix...we couldn't even bring anyone else on to turn the game around. So more than just 3. I get you with what you say with 3 required but off the bench we couldn't effect this game.

That game really reminded me of the old Poch days when teams were a bit worried about us so just defended for their lives and we struggled to break them down.

Nice start to a saturday evening. The fact that Arsenal were mugged with dubious VAR decision makes it even more enjoyable.

Sometimes you just have to be thankful you dug out a result. Today was one of those times. Fixture slog looked like it had caught up with us last couple of games, plus the buzz and adrenaline of a new manager seems to have worn off. I also think we desperately need our attacking players to get back into good form, get their touch right especially under close quarters plus much more thrust and output from the wingbacks, or games will continue to look unconvincing.

It also seems as if Conte has decided which players he can trust, maybe in some cases what he feels are the "least worst" options, and is sticking with them until he can make changes to the squad. Which means certain players are going to have to dig deep in the next few weeks and keep performing, and in some cases up them. Some crunch games ahead.
Exactly.

It makes no sense for him to drop some players who are working hard for him and putting the likes of Ndombele in because it'll only destroy their confidence/disrupt team cohesion.

He needs to know those coming in deserve it - the players too actually.

Wasn't the greatest watch, at times it looked more like a league 1 game. But they finally put in a quality dead ball, and it made the difference. They have to work harder on set piece and final delivery, it was atrocious today.

We did deserve it, and it was a much needed 3pts.......COYS

My fear is Levy having a mentality of ‘well we are winning, one or two changes will do’. One or two will certainly not do, we have so much bland everywhere.

Where's the "bland" though? We have a very solid defence under Conte with arguably our most talented CB out and we have 2 of the best forwards in the world. I really think we are a quality RWB and CM/AM away from competing next year.

Top 4?

You're having a laugh, some of the players are not good enough simple as that.
And yet we are there or thereabouts having sacked a manager already and all the other shit in the summer
We now have an elite coach so why not?

I guess the consensus here is that we played really well up until that final pass? I was watching a really dodgy stream but that's what I saw.
TBF, the way Watford set up for the most part, there was nothing *but* final passes. Watford cleared to half way and we retrieved the ball while everyone just waited on the edge of the box to reset the drill.

I see a lot of complaining about Royal but at least he is getting on the ball and defending properly.

However Reguillon on the other side puts in a 2nd piss poor performance in a row and is a far bigger problem

Obviously he is working with what he has but we will have to wait until the summer to see a real difference it's doubtful much will happen this month with finances and a notoriously difficult January to negotiate.
