THE GOOD: getting rid of those players who have not contributed or bought in to Conte's ideas. The squad has been dragging some dead bodies and for sure its slowed everyone at the club down! Glad to see some decisiveness finally!

THE BAD: we still have some square pegs for round holes which could bite us in the run for top 4 (RWB, LCB, ST?) but this is mitigated by Conte's tactics, player management and fitness regime

THE UGLY: Hate the rep DL's behaviour has given us over the years - makes all players, agents and team's dealing with us a huge burden. I don't care much for other fans laughing at us but wouldn't it b great to go out there & execute our plans early, announce deals on time & then very professionally proclaim we're done for this window. That would send a signal to fans, opposition and investors that we have a clear plan and the skills / money / cajones to execute it! Instead, we have had DL dicking around for years with trying to save a penny (which has cost us plenty more in the long run!). Whilst we've made progress this window, FP has a long way to go to redeem the clubs behaviour in the eyes of fans (and investors!)

Overall, a solid B from me and I'm feeling cautiously optimistic for 2nd half of the season, especially as we have a tighter squad and some new energy and variety to inject into the 1st team. We've brought 2 players I think are going to be special for us (probably not this season but from next season we should reap the benefit).

COYS!!!

Btw, could we not have signed Wout Weghorst for £12m?

I'm pretty sure he could have been a useful addition to the squad over the next 3 or 4 seasons.

But instead he went to Burnley!!

And for £12m!!

I think we (and a lot of teams across Europe) may have missed a trick with this one.

Even though we have a few games in hand we only have to play in the league and FA cup. 4 players out that where not playing and 2 in that will be play there part. So for me a good window and hopefully FP will make the groundwork for an excellent summer window.

I'm genuinely at the point that any back up of any sort would have been better than no cover for Kane. I know everyone says "Bergwiijn" but you couldn't get a more different back up for Kane if you tried!

Getting the unwanted out is key and even if they are short term deals those players stand a much better chance of performing where they are than sat on our bench. Based on the abilities we know they have I can't see them coming back with their tail between their legs.

He's an anti-vaxxer apparently. Who knows if he's the kind of backup Conte wants anyway, we may have something better lined up for the summer.

Thanks.

I would have signed him anyway, but I understand that the club have other concerns (PR, etc).

EDIT: I've seen that @McFlash below has mentioned that travel could have been an issue in the more hardline European countries. That's certainly a factor.

He's rumoured to be a massive anti-vaxxer, which could prove a problem travelling around Europe next season and as much as I would have taken him a season or two ago, I hope we're aiming for higher levels of talent with Conte at the helm.

In all honesty, he's the kind of cheap, stop-gap signing that we be wanting to upgrade on in a year or two, whilst being stuck with him on a big wage.

We should be aiming higher for Conte.

Did we keep @Stoof or was there a last minute transfer to Burnley Community ?
Deal sheet didn’t go in mate. Question marks over the medical too. Photos leaked of him scoffing a Five Guys after leaving the office at a depressing 9:45pm last night.

True.

Apparently he wasn't...er...'hefty' enough for a Sean Dyche signing.

(only joking Stoof ;) ).

Did Conte want him?

I'm guessing WW was obtainable, so I'd imagine that Conte didn't want him.

That's not to say that our manager hasn't made a mistake though.

All we can do is see how this season pans out and how we line up for the 22/23 campaign.

We may have other, better, options...or perhaps we won't.

If 5/10 is roughly breaking even in terms of the incomings and outgoings of the squad, I would call it 6/10 for the transfer window itself. I'd bump it up by 1 though due to the difficulty of operating in January, and bump it up 1 again due to the relative inactivity of our top 4 rivals. So 8/10 overall! Bringing in somebody like Yannick Carrasco or Jeremie Frimpong to give us some more versatility and cover at least the RWB position would have made it perfect under the circumstances.

I'm in general not a big fan of signing "offcasts" (for lack of a better term) from bigger clubs, or clubs of similar stature. I'm don't really like the idea of spending upwards of 70-80m on one supposedly "proven" player in a position we don't need either, when we would do well to spread the cost with multiple signings to cover multiple positions. I'd rather see us scouting out a few promising new players from lower or foreign leagues who get their first real chance to prove themselves here, or if we need an immediate impact then sign in-form players playing at a high level (ideally from other PL clubs).

That said, with Juventus somewhat in turmoil recently I think it's more than possible that we could have two really good players on our hands who might have been unobtainable in other circumstances! I'm happy to trust the process here and that FP knows what he's doing. The most important thing is that we brought in the bodies that we need in order to fill some holes in the squad, and freed up some space to bring in more impactful targets in the future.

I find it quite strange how football valuations work. Not long ago, Kulusevski was touted as the next £100m player. We got him for 18 months for under £10m. We only paid £15m for Bentancur who again, by all ccounts is a very good player.

All while getting up to (an allegedly easily achievable) £40m for Dele.

Maybe it's time for certain SC posters to conceed that the people at the club do actually know what they are doing.

I think we did what we could in January with incomings.

Happy we have a load off the wage bill so we can do some saving for the summer but a problem for me is that these loans are options, meaning they could come back in the summer and we start again.

Just have to hope they play well and clubs want them.

Got to be satisfied with the window.
signs that we are doing business differently
A squad full of actual team players - and hopefully signs of a closeknit, functioning team to push on through until the end of the season.
The front 5 options we have now are an improvement.
kulusevski looks like he can play with his back to goal better than any of the other options we have so Kane might not have to play every minute of every game.
now need fp to get to work on a lcb, rwb and ST ready for the summer
Onwards and upwards
