His positioning was awful.

I think a lot of what Ramsdale has been praised for is shot stopping rather than anything else.

I wonder if Arsenal's defence have done a good job of preventing him from facing situations where he needs to come collect etc.

Because I seem to remember at Sheffield United he made several clangers in those scenarios
Disagree tbh, positioning was fine given the angle of the shot and where he needs to cover potential attacks.

It’s a myth about this near post aspect, he isn’t covering just near post.

a keeper needs to cover near post, far post, crossbar and anticipate the cross, along with anticipating their own defenders and attacking runs, all in a split second of play, so a keeper tries to cover all areas to minimise odds of a goal.

ramsdale is a bloody brilliant keeper, no doubts about it, not just shot stopping, but all round of a very high quality and consistent keeper, including superb distribution.

keeping is a game of chances, he’s had an outstanding season too, and that goal is absolutely no keeper blame from me

100% his angles are terrible. Take that angle up from a cross, not a shot. Have to force player the harder option going across goal. Its poor keeping.

His made some great saves and has great distribution BUT he has got extremely lucky in many games. Several huge calamities he has got away with.

Good Keeper but not as good as being made out, YET.

You may love him and he has done well but he was miles away from where he should have been for that goal. You first and foremost cover your near post

He may as well have been standing on the half way line!

They're favourites at the moment so I think we've basically got to hope they crumble under the pressure and bottle it.

They're playing some nice stuff and have been consistent but they're a young team and are very thin in certain areas. I think our best hope is that they either crumble mentally under the pressure or lose one of their irreplaceable players and have to dip into the squad.

If they pull it off fair play to them. We had it in our hands a month or so back and dropped some silly points so would only have ourselves to blame.

We've got 9 games left.
I think we need 7 wins and a draw minimum (arse game being a win).

So I think we'd need them to lose a minimum of 3, considering how inconsistent we are.

I don't know what will happen regarding final League standings for either team, but I think we will have too much for the Gooners especially at home. They totally ducked us earlier in the season and that still irks me
The thing is they've been more consistent.... they took the long term view and did a rebuild. Moved on a few rotten characters and backed Arteta even when it looked so bleak.... I thought he was getting the sack back in September after those 3 losses and i genuinely thought they'd get Conte then.

We need other teams to do us a favour...West Ham, Chelsea, United and the likes of Southampton and Crystal Palace...we on the other hand MUST find consistency and stay injury free.

We stay injury free and build some momentum and it's going to be one hell of and exciting finish to the season.

I agree that the "you should never be beaten at your near post" line has been repeated to death and isn't always true, but that doesn't mean it's never true. The cliche exists for a reason and it's definitely right on occasion.

Jota was shooting from a tight angle and Ramsdale could've easily moved a foot to the right while still covering a shot to the far post (which was, realistically, Jota's only other option). It was Ramsdale's poor positioning that allowed Jota to even attempt a near post shot, let alone score it.

If Ramsdale closes the angle at the near post Jota has no choice but to make a very difficult and accurate shot across goal the far post. Instead Ramsdale leaves the door wide open for Jota and makes it much easier for him.

Defo keepers fault for me.

EDIT: Even Jota himself confirmed it in the post match interview!

On whether he saw Ramsdale a bit to his left-hand side too much: “Yes, I don’t think he expected the cross or the shot to the far post.

“But I saw the space there and I took advantage of it.”

Have people actually looked at their fixtures closely?

They're tough. Even when they play their game in hand away to Chelsea on the 16th April (a Wednesday) they then have United on the Saturday morning who will be rested and fresh, and most likely still in the mix.

Palace away will be very tough...MNF under the lights...with the added pressure (hopefully) of us level on points if we beat Newcastle on the Sunday.

We've got much better fixtures and we're starting to look like a Conte unit now.

The NLD will decide it imo...we win and we'll have a great chance.

Vieira will absolutely roll over for Gooners.

Vieira will absolutely roll over for Gooners.
Palace didn't roll over for them in the away leg in October, drawing 2-2 and were unlucky to concede a 95th min Arsenal equaliser.

In their last 3 games Palace beat Everton 4 nil in the cup, kept City goalless last Monday night, and beat Wolves 2 nil away. That's a decent mini-run and their confidence should be high to challenge a London rival. Fingers crossed!

100%.

If they have a "surprise" defeat in them I think it's coming at either Southampton or Newcastle. I'm holding on to hope that their 3 defeats (if they happen) are 2 of the 3 games against Chelsea, United and West Ham, and most importantly the NLD.

Contrary to popular belief most managers and players are professional enough to not let old allegiances get the better of them. Plus Vieira's exit from Arsenal was fairly acrimonious anyway from what I recall.

The exception to the above is Fergie's disciples at Man U, Bruce, Hughes etc who literally did roll over every single time.

agree with almost everything and as of today, Arsenal has an edge, but not by much. My two cents is that the NLD is important becasue of its leveraged affect but it ist still possible to lose that and still win out. Arsenal's schedule is tough enough that they will drop points. If Spurs consistency improves and we see what we've seen over the last few games for almost all of the rest of the games, then it's a toss up. It is our defending that is most worrisome. The other factor is that Arsenal is hot now but it is entirely possible that a young team like that can lose confidence quickly too.

For the last couple of weeks I've been keeping a tally between what I expect us and Arse to get versus what we actually got. Obviously the Spurs predictions are through slightly tinted glasses where as the Arse predictions might be the other end of the scale..

If results were to follow something like the above we should be able to finish 4th with room to spare.
