100%.

If they have a "surprise" defeat in them I think it's coming at either Southampton or Newcastle. I'm holding on to hope that their 3 defeats (if they happen) are 2 of the 3 games against Chelsea, United and West Ham, and most importantly the NLD.

The geordies will give them a good game. Wood is the type of striker arsenal teams hate playing against and ASM will really attack their spaces between defenders. If Newcastle can get the the ball forward early then they could do well. Trouble is, do they score enough goals, because I think they'll concede at least one.

For the last couple of weeks I've been keeping a tally between what I expect us and Arse to get versus what we actually got. Obviously the Spurs predictions are through slightly tinted glasses where as the Arse predictions might be the other end of the scale..

Spurs
Man Utd
expected 1 Actual 0
Brighton expected 1 Actual 3
West Ham expected 3 Actual 3
Newcastle expected 3
Villa expected 1
Brighton expected 3
Brentford expected 3
Leicester expected 3
Liverpool expected 0
Burnley expected 3
Norwich expected 3
Arsenal expected 3

Arsenal
Liverpool
expected 0 Actual 0
Villa expected 1 Actual 3
Palace expected 1
Brighton expected 3
South'pton expected 3
Man Utd expected 1
West Ham expected 1
Leeds expected 3
Newcastle expected 1
Everton expected 1
Chelsea expected 1
Spurs excpected 0

If results were to follow something like the above we should be able to finish 4th with room to spare.

...probably just cursed us now!! :cautious:
Going from…
WLWLWLWLWW
to
WWWDWWWLWWW

That would see us end the season on league winning form (W9/D1/L1).

As much as I’d love to see it I can’t help but think we’ll end up dropping a few more points along the way.

Contrary to popular belief most managers and players are professional enough to not let old allegiances get the better of them. Plus Vieira's exit from Arsenal was fairly acrimonious anyway from what I recall.

The exception to the above is Fergie's disciples at Man U, Bruce, Hughes etc who literally did roll over every single time.
I doubt that very much. United were just miles better than the likes of Southampton and Sheffield United. They beat the cannon fodder convincingly on a regular basis regardless of who the manager was.

Can’t believe we are 5/2 and they are 1/2. Their game in hand is away to Chelsea. They have to come to the lane. They have more away games and on the whole tougher games. Honestly currently not sure I’d swap positions with them.

At the moment we are seen as inconsistent after our losses to Southampton, Wolves and Utd. This is not unfair.

Arsenal's league results this year have been:
Lost 2-1 at home to City
Drew 0-0 at home to Burnley
Won 1-0 away to Wolves
Won 2-1 at home to Brentford
Won 2-1 at home to Wolves
Won 3-2 away to Watford
Won 2-0 at home to Leicester
Lost 2-0 at home to Liverpool
Won 1-0 away to Villa

That's 19 points from a possible 27. They do seem to be getting wins against the smaller teams but losing the big games.

We've got 12 points from our last 9 league games.

I think it's hard to call.

Ever heard of taking 'one game at a time'. The only things in life you can guarantee is death, taxes and us losing a semi to Chelsea.

I hope you haven't put your house on the outcome.

"One game at a time" is a completely meaningless term for fans. What changes if I start looking at things one game at a time?

I think the context though, is that we look a better side now with the Juve lads and Romero getting a run.

If we were playing Wolves and Southampton again...I'd be confident of taking maximum points.

You shouldn’t look at games ahead with any certainty- football doesn’t accommodate that way of thinking. You open yourself to misunderstanding where you are, at this moment and then, with failed predictions going forward your understanding needs understanding. You can get ahead of yourself believing what is not and may not be true or come true. Just take one game at a time. ?

Agree. Its International break. Few injuries here and there and the wheels fall off.
Hopefully all our boys come through ok and Arsenals less so.

Happy them lot are actually getting a few fast games in a row now

W*nking themselves silly since December. It only took Lego head half the season to learn how to prepare for one match a week.

You get what you deserve you. Bunch of wimps.

...so you're basically saying that this crystal ball I have here, is just a glass sphere and does not show me the future?

I agree that the "you should never be beaten at your near post" line has been repeated to death and isn't always true, but that doesn't mean it's never true. The cliche exists for a reason and it's definitely right on occasion.

Jota was shooting from a tight angle and Ramsdale could've easily moved a foot to the right while still covering a shot to the far post (which was, realistically, Jota's only other option). It was Ramsdale's poor positioning that allowed Jota to even attempt a near post shot, let alone score it.

If Ramsdale closes the angle at the near post Jota has no choice but to make a very difficult and accurate shot across goal the far post. Instead Ramsdale leaves the door wide open for Jota and makes it much easier for him.

Defo keepers fault for me.

EDIT: Even Jota himself confirmed it in the post match interview!

On whether he saw Ramsdale a bit to his left-hand side too much: “Yes, I don’t think he expected the cross or the shot to the far post.

“But I saw the space there and I took advantage of it.”
Anticipating the ball across the goal as well, I don’t put blame on the keeper at all, yes ramsdale will be blaming himself for it, but I can see why he was positioned where he was, and that’s the challenge a keeper has.

he covers his near post and they score far post or from a cross, keepers fault too for not anticipating the potentials - hence my comment on putting yourself in the best position to minimise risks - it doesn’t always work, but gives you better odds at keeping the ball out of the net. Honestly the most challenging position on the pitch.

I watch pro keepers train at least four times a week, so I see how they are expected to cover those scenarios etc
