All La Liga players have a release clause (it's mandatory) and most of them are mental; I think a few Barca players have it set at €1bn. Seems like a pretty dumb rule to have when everyone just circumvents it this way but it is what it is.
A lot Set at 1bn now because neymars was 200m and that was deemed high enough nobody would ever trigger it, until a certain psg came along

Would query how enforceable that agreement is … sounds like gentlepeople’s agreement stuff.

“If we want to buy him at the end of the loan you’ll give us a good price?”

“Oh yeah. Sure. Very good price. Sure thing.”

If you find a player that can do a job, even if just as a good place holder, does it make the world of difference if we have an option or not?

Nothing too wrong with an old fashioned loan if it suits all sides - you wouldn't walk away from a loan that works in the short term just because there was no option.

Must admit I am surprised there’s no option to buy.

Would love an ITK to reassure us why that’s not an issue as at the moment I can’t help but think we could get screwed over next year if we want to keep him.
I think people need to chill. If we progress as I'm sure we will as a club I dont see why he would go anywhere else.

Hes done the massive club thing and it didnt work out.

Yep, I don't care if we have an option or not. We have now a set of CBs that will hopefully see us through the season.
It's just to get a RWB now, or hope that Doc and Emerson can see us through.
I think a RWB will be got in, then we should have a squad with a realistic chance of top 4 and a trophy.
Can't say I'm confident of a trophy. Our back up players will have to really step up in the domestic cups. Am confident of top 4 though.

I understand you. But I stand to be corrected. Would be very suprised if there was not ‘adage’ in the contact to pursue ‘Option/Obligation’ at some point. Because it is not part of initial contract it is be deemed ‘straight loan’. And considering Barca’s financial situation, Taxes etc. Would not surprise me one bit. But knowing how Daniel Levy works, I just cannot see something not being in there.

Yeah I just can't see it. Conte could easily turn Lenglet back into a €50m asset and Levy would not want to be doing that for another club's benefit.

Well, they could have a contractually agreed transfer fee in the event that they agreed to sell him to us next season. Would have provisions about dates etc ofc. Seems perfectly possible to me.

Again not really much for us there. Unless there’s a restriction on how much they can sell him to the market (doubt that’d be overly enforceable from an anticompetitive point of view) then it’s only if they choose to sell him to us then that would bite? Not saying that it’s beyond the realms - but again, doesn’t seem much there for us

Brighton and Everton’s best player, no problem. A loan from a cash strapped giant for an unwanted CB and a young RWB from the Championship who is not wanted by his club, big problems - very Spursy this.
Goddddd some people are never happy are they!

I can't understand the outrage and confusion of the no option to buy? Especially as many didn't even want him in the first place?

Think its pretty simple. He wasn't first or second choice, Bastoni and Gvardiol were and were unattainable, simple as. Lenglet is the easy stop gap until we potentially move for the other 2 next summer.

The loan fee isn't much of an issue when you take into account we were willing to pay £60m for our first choice. It frees up money in lots of other positions, as @Trix has alluded to way too many times, the fluidity of of our business.

I'm sure there's even more tidbits we dont know which Herc has insinuated with the Lenglet transfer.

Regardless, I kind of feel for Trix the most, he's explained the complicated rollercoaster of how the transfer window will pan out yet it seems no one listens? Quite crazy.

Lenglet fills the Lcb role for now which probably means we have alot more cash to approach the other vacant roles, RWB, another CB and a creative midfielder.

Its not rocket science.

Barcas financial situation could be the reason why no option or obligation was agreed. Maybe after a year of getting their finances in order, they’ll be in a better stand point from a negotiation perspective. He has a contract until 2026 and it’ll be in their best interests to let him go away for a loan and try recoup as much as their initial investment as possible.
I reckon we’re just happy to have a CB of his quality for a season as a stop gap.
