If the rumours about Lenglet are correct, I would have thought Paratici would have had a chat with Hugo about him... French skipper etc.,

If we are entertaining Lenglet at this point, and that’s because Bastoni looks unlikely (still think it’s too early to say definitively), I’d MUCH rather us pivot to a tandem of Ndicka and Bremer if we really want 2 CBs. Bremer might be possible if Inter can’t pull the trigger due to Bastoni not coming to us.

Read a few posts saying he's, well, basically meh.

How bad is he, hard for me to judge coz Xavi hasn't fancied him resulting in limited minutes.

He must've been half decent to get signed from Sevilla by Barca in the first instance no ?? o_O

Not too many CBs with experience of playing as LB out there, he is one of them. Hopefully a Plan D or something though.

I get the underwhelming takes but also think it's worth noting that he'd probably be better in a back five than the four that he usually plays in. His FBref page even shows his strengths of dribbling and passing progressively out of the back (best in the world at both apparently) and his similar players are Ben Davies and Bastoni... fits the mould of a LCB that we're looking at so I don't get the outrage.

I thought he was the second coming of Vertonghen while he was at Sevilla.

I'll say this that Barca defense has been a mess. Busquets isn't near the player he used to be to cover the defense, Pique is done and Alba can't get up and down the pitch like he used to.

He could be an example like Kulusevski of being put in a better situation and immediately being back to his best.

I agree, there's talent there, and with Barca on their knees I'm sure we could get a very favourable loan deal. If he's shit send him back

Put it this way, if we sign him or Torres then Davies will still be first choice LCB for us because the other 2 will flop.

It will suck a lot of the optimism out of the fanbase after the cash injection and links to Bastoni, Gvardiol etc.

Instead of trying to catch City and Pool, it will feel more like we’re just trying to hang on to 4th place.

We really need to make this a summer where we get our first choice targets, with no excuses.

Lenglet is being hated on massively here and it’s mostly unfounded or misguided.

If this was a couple of years ago, we’d all be losing our mind at this link because he looked destined to be one of the world’s best CBs for years to come. But the upheaval and fluctuations in management and tactics at Barça seems to have dented his confidence and made his worst trait more noticeable - he isn’t the best decision maker at times and can be error prone.

But he’s been playing in a back 2 at Barça behind an ageing Busquets, a very inexperienced midfield and an ageing Pique or the (awful) Eric Garcia as his partner.

In a 3 he’ll have more protection and it will allow him to do what he does best, which is create from the back. He’s as good a passer, ball carrier and all round creative presence at CB as their is in the world. Absolutely elite. And it’s clear Conte values that massively in his system. He’s also a good reader of the game defensively and has the thing we used to say about Alderweireld - he doesn’t make a lot of tackles because he’s in good positions.

I think as a second option, he’d be very solid, especially on loan. He’s not close to Bastoni as a complete defender, but I think he’d be a noticeable upgrade on Davies at LCB and could happily play CCB with his ball playing also.

I'm sure the fanbase would be fine with llenglet if he was the first name linked instead of Bastoni and/or it meant that we sign someone better in a different position due to the finances available.. we need to look at the big picture in these examples:

1. Bastoni and Tielemans
2. Llenglet and SMS

Not saying that is what will happen but with upwards of 8 signings needed, shouldn't we be looking at how the puzzle fits together?

I don't get the outrage. He's not our top choice but the ones that are (Bastoni and Gvardiol), are very difficult to get. Paratici just has more options which is what we all want, and if Conte is happy then they should be good enough. Also, of course there's no progress on Bastoni, he has 4 more games until mid June, we won't push right now, just making sure that we have options.

His top level is awesome. Haven’t seen it since Sevilla and Barca year 1, but his passing and carrying is elite. Fits the profile for what we supposedly are looking for in the LCB, someone who is also an important contributor in attack as well as defence. But he has been genuinely terrible since 19/20. Awful. But like many players, a change of scenery and bang they recover their best form. Kulusevski, Bentancur, Lo Celso, etc. Also means if he does join we’d be getting a fantastic deal as Barca clearly want him gone. I’d be a lot more worried if he never showed top ability, but he has, so Conte could easily help him return to his best. And I’m also of the belief that whoever we sign Conte is at least happy to work with even if not the preferred choice. If that’s not the case, then it’s an inexcusable club problem. So I’ll only look at the positives no matter who joins.

If Conte is happy with this and if we have exhausted the obvious choices ahead of him, then I don't really see an issue. I prefer this approach instead of missing out on our no1 target and staying in a state of paralysis about what to do

I do think he'll succeed here. Conte knows the type of footballer he wants, and his game is similar to Davies in that he can make the forward pass/break the press, to get the ball to Perisic/Son/Bentancur.
26 y.o so he's still sort of young.

We need one worldclass signing, this isn't it, but if we improve elsewhere (probably would be midfield), signing Lenglet to have him and Davies fight out for LCB would be a decent option. Still would prefer Gvardiol (likely won't happen)/N'Dicka/Botman/Lisandro Martinez if we don't get Bastoni

This isn't fact though. You can't be definitive here.

I know nothing about him but he was apparently very good at Sevilla and first season at Barca which lets be honest is a bit of weird place right now.

Like I said I've no idea but he has some pedigree and it's a very cheap deal which doesn't have to be a bad thing or suck up any optimism, it may just mean we switch the big signing elsewhere like SMS for example.

Lenglet is not a bad player.

I have seen some takes ,saying he is worse than Davies. Davies had a great season part of back3. Lenglet plays back4 in a protection less Barca lineup. So, to say, Davies is better, on what basis?

Would Davies do better in Barca defense ? No chance. He will be equally exposed.
Back3 allows defenders to hide their bad side and help bring out their better sides.

From what I know, Lenglet is very good on ball, his long range passing is quite good, tackles good on 1v1. Negatives - positioning not the greatest.

I see him as one of the last options we could go for LCB spot. I wouldnt be against signing him. If he clicks, his upside potential is quite high (like he showed in Sevilla)
