Writing him off would have been one thing, but it was the unnecessary over the top abuse he was given.

I think the issue most sane-of-mind fans had with the band-wagoners wasn't the criticism (deservedly or not), but the hate & vitriol aimed at Emerson. It was way OTT and in most parts completely unnecessary.
Most players welcome judgement, but in ER case it was getting personal and bordering on obsessive.

I think the Porro debut has shown how important it is to have at least one more defensive option at RB in the squad - especially under a manager like Conte that likes to sit quite deep and doesn't use possession itself as a form of defence in the way some of the other top teams do.
Royal has proven to be very solid at the defensive side of the game and a really important member of the squad. If we'd gone all out on attacking wing-backs and sold Royal I'm not sure we win all of the games we have recently as we've had to be really solid at the back and he's done especially well.
Obviously that's not to say we shouldn't use Porro too. There are absolutely games where we're crying out for some more creativity, craft and good crosses from wing back, but Royal is still a great option to have and I think he'll prove to be a real asset who will provide balance to the squad and help massively in certain fixtures.

Bringing this where it belongs.
Him having poor games didn't justify the level of vitriol he received earlier in the season. Criticising his performance and saying he needs to improve aspects of his game is fine, it was the abuse he received on top that wasn't acceptable.

Ashamed of themselves?! Dry your eyes. When players aren't playing well enough, the fans have every right to voice their opinions. Always have, always will.
Also, are you telling me our wonderful coaches are beyond reproach? Never made a wrong call on a player? Blimey, the last couple of decades must have been riddled with success in that case...

There’s a difference between voicing your concerns and straight up insulting a player or booing them during games.

Really good shout in fairness but Rashford will get it. 4 goals in 3 PL wins and a draw.
Also with 3 wins from 3 surely Stellini is nominated for Manager of the Month.

Feel like I'm repeating myself.. voicing an opinion on a player's performance is NOT the same as openly abusing and booing said player when his name is read out on the team sheet. He was made out to be a joke by our fans and I don't know if it is true or not, but I read a couple of them had got a flag made with a red cross over his face.
Yes, they really should be ashamed.

At this point, I'd just like a bunch of people on this forum to admit that, when it comes to Royal, they've been bone-headed, knuckle-dragging neanderthals.

I said before, he's been my son and my favourite player this season, purely because of all the shit he's put up with but kept going, working hard and improving.
That's exactly the attitude we love in our players.
Gotta support the underdog, it's ingrained in us as Spurs fans. ?

This is above and beyond reasonable criticism by the way, which I completely understand.
