Only because we've played more games than everyone else. We could go as low as 7th if Liverpool, Newcastle and Brighton win their games in hand. We have a worse goal difference than all three too.
God I hate this "if everyone wins their games in hand" bollocks

Can I ask then how do you know who we wanted and didn't want? I guess the same journalists who said we wanted Bastoni... And If we don't trust journalists then at least you should ask Bastoni and his agent when you can find multiple quotes saying he loves Inter and wants to stay there
Because club usually prefers to sign someone younger? Becuase club usually doesn't sign players on loan(especially without buy option)? Because club usually doesn't go for players who are clearly on big downward trajectory like Lenglet was? And then you have Conte who prefers more experienced, coming from big clubs that you can say have winning mentality etc? His transfer window at Inter in 19/20 is perfect example of this.

Last season we were 3rd in goals scored with 60 goals in 28 matches and 18% of goals were set pieces. Now we are fourth with 46 goals after 26 games and 30% of our goals came from set pieces. So we are clearly much worse in open play?
There really isn't that much difference in our defence in those two seasons. And it's mostly coming just from Lloris regression at shot stopping.

Or it's not a coincidence Arsenal improved their attack, put trust into their youth, played even more front football and that allowed them to also improve defensively. Something that Conte isn't doing
So basically you have zero evidence he wanted Lenglet which is what you stated initially. We got Lenglet in all likelihood because he was cheap. But I very much doubt conte wanted Lenglet off all players. Same way Rodon wasn't a Jose choice. Same shit different manager.

we are still fourth in goals scored regardless of the drop off so we are scoring at a rate to win games however dull it is. We however can't defend you save our lives.

conte will go but the same problems will persist at a club which chooses the cheap options

Yea poch even suffered from this moreso didn’t he:
Sissoko instead of Winjaldium
Janssen as the striker purchase
N’Jie & N’Koudu
Wimmer

To be fair last summer we splashed £60mil on Brazils n.o9 and this Jan £45mil on one of the best RWB’s around so things are changing a bit but yea we have cheaped out on CB’s often.

How on bloody earth is Lenglet a Conte signing. No manager in their right mind is asking for Clement Lenglet. Thats just ludicrous. Not having that at all.

I'm not even defending Conte but we're fourth in goals scored. Its very much the defence that is the problem, thats the basis of the team and allows the players in front to play with confidence. Its not a coincidence that Arsenal have improved dramatically now they have proper CBs.
FYI, Conte tried to sign Lenglet when he was manager of Inter.

4th in name only. My fucking hairy arse. We are literally 4th ffs.
There is a cultish anti-Conte movement. They are literally incapable of rational thought where Conte is concerned, just overly obsessed with how "shit" our football is and wanting a "progressive project manager" in.

Its been a mixed season imo. Some utterly turgid and horrendous football mixed in with good results (Man City, Chelsea). Some great young players being showcased (Sarr and Skipp) and some garbage experienced players too (Perisic, Sanchez.)

I have been particularly unimpressed by Conte's in-game management this season, especially the lack of subs (same as I was under Poch tbf) and his stubbornness around formation and some of his selections have driven me crazy. However, it would be churlish to say he "hasn't improved any players"......Dier was fantastic at the end of last season, Kulu and Bentancur were a revelation, Sarr, Skipp and much maligned Emerson have been brilliant at times this season. As I say, overall a mixed bag.

I don't think a slavish, cultish obsession to any manager is healthy or indeed necessary.

2 wins without our manager you mean? What about the City win, where does that measure up? Results are the most important thing and we've still not done that bad results wise. It's not great but also not that bad either to be 4th at this stage. Certainly not sack the manager bad.
We have the most losses shared with chelsea (9) in the top 10, so yes thats bad, sack manager bad.
And we are just keeping 4th place warm for liverpool to take it over.

That’s the thing though isn’t it? If we based our opinion on results this week, then absolutely no fucking chance. But. We could easily have been 2:0 up at Wolves and Liverpool could have conceded twice this pm before they got the 1st. It will change every week as no-one is particularly great or consistent this season. Lots of teams in transition I guess.

It will be like 2019 with everyone trying their best to not get fourth.

We have the 4th most wins in the top 10 and only one less than Man Utd in 3rd. That’s good, keep the manager good.

Pretty pointless looking at things in isolation isn’t it.

Well two wins without our manager doesn't entirely convince me that the manager is doing the right thing when he is here!

I've said elsewhere that the City game was probably our best performance of the season.

But one good performance...and it really hasn't been much more than that at all this season...shouldn't save a manager.

I also agree that results are what matters. And 9 losses out of 26 in the league whilst also meekly dropping out of each cup isn't good enough.

If we announced tomorrow that Conte has signed a 1 year extension for next season, would anyone actually be pleased about that right now?
Yes and no.

Yes because it ends the circus and settles things down in some respects, puts players minds at ease in the will he won't he, let's fans know what the situation is.

No because we'll never properly commit on the investment side and get what we need, but this is the same for any poor sod who takes the job on unfortunately.

Strong hints coming through that everything rests on Michael Caine's shoulders. We shall see.

Could be a million miles off but i am thinking Conte future linked to whether Harry Kane thinks his time is up as manager
