Always been my biggest issue with Paratici even when he was at Juve, fantastic talent scout but he’s not good at picking a manager. Really tho, I don’t understand why he’s even involved if he’s likely off. I can understand maybe consulting him but he really shouldn’t be involved in the final choice.
I dont understand why he hasnt at least been on gardening leave from the second he was punished in Italy.

Interesting article on The Athletic about this today, with a list of the potential candidates.

Amongst the suggestions of the usual suspects (and my God the menu is so much better than it was at the time of desperately scrabbling around and ending up with Nuno), was an interesting idea of getting shot of Paratici (which seems likely anyway), and getting Paul Barber back from Brighton and bringing de Zerbi with him - put Barber in charge of football operations and let Levy concentrate on his go-kart track.

De Zerbi does seem like the forward-looking, accepted-our-station candidate - progressive, young, aggressive, works within a budget, promotes youth etc.

We’ve also tended to do better when poaching a coach from a smaller club and getting them to step up and prove themselves - seems to generate fewer issues with Levy, motivates them and the players they bring in, you get a guy who feels proud and privileged to be here etc.

Bit of a Poch mkII and would be my first choice.

Do you have a link to the article?

Using de Zerbi/Barber is a good idea but man, I wish top six clubs would develop ways to win rather than cannibalising any club that dares to overachieve. I know there's always been bigger fish but if I was a Brighton fan, that happening twice in eight months would make me wonder what the point is.

Should be easy, Levy is such a good judge when it comes to these important decisions.
I agree. He's a bloody awful judge of a manager. Jol was forced on him when Santini didn't work and Poch he was pressured into by the Lewis family if rumours are to be believed. With that in mind, he's not picked one manager that's worked 🤣

I would be happy with de Zerbi, I just feel he has only been at Brighton for half a season and it would be stupid for him to leave that when he has barely started really.

Wait until you realise your point is analogous to capitalism and western life itself and then you can enjoy an existential crisis on your thursday

Conte isn’t going to go is he?

Have to say I’m so shocked that he has made it to Thursday. Thought he’d have been gone a n Sunday
My take is that we want to have everyting in place before he is kicked. If we are looking for a new manager to come in now it explains the delay, if it was Mason nailed on to caretake then it would have been done by now. Its more likely we want to sack Conte and then announce the new guy.

Levy has brought in 13 managers during his 22 years and of that 13 only one of them was given a contract extension. That's a fair old list of bringing in duds and/or pulling the trigger too early. I certainly don't trust his judgement on the matter.

Don’t trust Partici on it either given prior so where basically screwed.

My Mark Fisher books are getting very ragged. On unrelated note, anyone got any molotovs?

I agree it’s likely not plausible, especially the idea of getting Barber back, but I can dream! It’s a nice distraction from our reality…
Yeah I feel you on that. Personally I’ve completely given up on the Gallardo dream, he is by far my most wanted but deep down I know Levy doesn’t remotely have the vision to go for him regardless how suited he is. When I start reading names like Marco Silver, Conceição, Frank, Glasner etc along with phrases like “PL proven” I completely loose all hope. Not that they are necessarily bad managers but tactically they just aren’t remotely the right fit.

Thing is, considering the catastrophic search of 21 where we had a lot of time and ended up with Nuno I think this will ultimately end with Mason in charge whilst the board bumble around until summer. Everything we hear is that they weren’t planning for his departure so the idea they can come to some unanimous decision in the space of two weeks and that choice actually be a good one is extremely extremely unrealistic.

You could argue logic behind them all though: compare to Newcastle hiring McClaren/Bruce or Everton hiring Benitez. I don't think there were any that were clearly bad fits from day one; even Nuno was apparently Paratici.

Thomas Frank being linked more again today.

Whilst I don't like his style of play, long balls to Ivan Toney and long throws etc, I don't know if he is capable of coaching a more possession passing based approach but their 4-3-3 with Benhrama Watkins etc in the championship was very nice at times, however one box his does tick in a massive way is that he is a very likeable positive character and I think our club and players and fans would hugely benefit from that, he builds people up, he's brave, he gives belief etc etc and he works on a tight budget.

Absolutely not one of my top choices but if it was him if he was able to coach a better style of football then that aside he could actually be a very very good fit.

Personally I thought Jose, Nuno and Conte were all poor fits with where and what we are as a club. Everyone was sick of project managers at the time but that's what I thought we needed with a new DoF and access to better quality players because of increased stadium revenue

It's Alien-esque footage of Levy putting his gall bladder back in.
That set to the Godfather theme interspliced with black and white footage of Levy handing him his P45 and Conte drop-kicking him through a plate glass window.
