I thought he looked really confident, comfortable and composed. I understand that maybe we’d like a bit more from him. We see this with most managersLove Ryan Mason and wish him the best over these 6 games, but watching that press conference reminded me of his press conferences in his last stint, zero edge and not confident enough to express his own actual opinions, basically a club glove puppet. For now he’ll do just fine but under no circumstances can he be given the job full time. He needs to go manage elsewhere for his own good after this.
AND, in the UEFA against ManUtd: Gil comes on from the bench - as a sub for Lamela. Now Sevilla have Lamela AND Gil AND £25M. You really couldn't make it up. Levy got Levy'd.
Still think Gil has a good future though, but sadly not looking like it will be with us.
That’s not what you said. You said ‘if the players want him I don’t’. You think overall the players didn’t want Poch and SAF to be their manager?Poch did exactly what I said and he wasn't a prick.
Was Alex Ferguson roundly like by all the players?
He was the boss and they knew it.
Would love to be proved wrong - but yeah if given the job full time I can't see him being one to set boundaries and make the bold decisions that are required to deal with bad attitudes and underperforming players. All well and good being positive but there are times when you need to tell the players what's what.Love Ryan Mason and wish him the best over these 6 games, but watching that press conference reminded me of his press conferences in his last stint, zero edge and not confident enough to express his own actual opinions, basically a club glove puppet. I'd much rather go for him knowing he's succeeded at a lower league club, like Kompany. And even then you can't be sure. Case in point Steven Gerrard who at one point was seen as Klopp's successor.Don't disagree which is why I said I'd like him to get experience elsewhere, but we're such a mess right now, I can't genuinely see how much more harm it would do if he got the role permanently either.
The club needs a reset, he's been here most of his life, understands everything about the club, knows the history, loves the club and wants to be here, that ticks a lot of boxes for a lot on here alone.
He might be out of his depth, he might fail, but he's got enough experience banked now under JM and Conte to know what works and what doesn't.
We've gone for big names and it hasn't worked. Rolling the dice along with a new plan for the progression under a Spurs man might just be alright.
To be honest, I mostly found it interesting we’d appointed Scott Parker’s no.2 rather than went with someone like Chris Powell.FYI, every single person in his coaching team is either a current Tottenham staff (Suckling & Vio) or former Tottenham Staff (Wells & Gibbs).
Yeah, it's odd Chris Powell isn't on his coaching team.To be honest, I mostly found it interesting we’d appointed Scott Parker’s no.2 rather than went with someone like Chris Powell.
Absolutely. He showed that as a player. Pochettino wanted him to stay but he knew that to get regular first team football he had to leave. His ambition though was always to come back to Spurs.Mason wouldn’t be top of my list but he definitely wouldn’t be bottom. Think I’d like him to stay on the coaching staff under another manager, maybe being the assistant but I think he’ll want a full time manager job somewhere soon otherwise he’ll never be considered for the top job.
I don't think so. I think Chris is around for him to talk to about anything but he is a busy bloke with the academy set up. I'd want a general there who can tell me who to have a look at.Yeah, it's odd Chris Powell isn't on his coaching team.
Not sure about your love for Ryan when you are calling him "basically a club glove puppet". All I have heard & read about Mason is someone who has a strong work ethic, loves this club with a passion & is respected by the players & previous managers Conte & Mourinho.Love Ryan Mason and wish him the best over these 6 games, but watching that press conference reminded me of his press conferences in his last stint, zero edge and not confident enough to express his own actual opinions, basically a club glove puppet. Maybe we need him to be focused on the academy so as not to get relegated. Otherwise, you're correct and I can't think of any other reasonsTo be honest, I mostly found it interesting we’d appointed Scott Parker’s no.2 rather than went with someone like Chris Powell.
love it! aka "let me take charge mate you have no clue what this team needs, right H?!"
Even though Arteta and Xavi didn't have loads of coaching experience, in my opinion, Ryan needs to cut his teeth somewhere else to have a chance of the job. Even a season in the Champ would make a tonne of difference.
Yea it ain’t happening.Totally agree.
Besides no way Levy appoints such an inexperienced coach full time when the fanbase is at its most toxic. If it ends up a disaster it would be yet another stick to beat him with.
