We are 5/6th as far as money is concerned, but we are #1 as far as bricks and mortar infrastructure. Remember this was supposed to be the "game changer" that allows us to compete with those with more finances. Since we built the stadium and training ground to nurture all these youthful talents into better players, we've literally done the opposite by appointing managers who don't want to use the academy and neglecting our youth system to the point that most of the better players want out at the first opportunity a decent club looks at them.
100% this.

I’m hoping he has now brought in Munn and he’ll actually let him do his job or at bare minimum listen to his input. Early signs are promising but a lot of work to do to get things right.

TBF Paratici was addressing this, which is why the 16's and down are looking much better. I mean we can complain about the managers refusing to integrate them but at the same time the standard coming through as a group was low because of retention and recruitment which was not down to them.

delighted with Maddison but your easily pleased if you think that is enough to conclude he’s changed his ways

we got him at the price Levy wanted and without competition

what would have happened if the price was 10-15m higher and not seen as “value”

loads more to do before we can say he’s truly changed his involvement and approach

I hope he has but far too early to say “oh dear”

let’s see at the end of the window

Newcastle won't be overtaking Spurs yet on income they are still over 300 million euros short. CL will give them a boost this season but the next Deloitte league will show our income from last seasons CL so the gap could well rise . They are also a long way short on matchday income , their most expensive season ticket £852 so it's going to take some huge commercial deals for them to get anywhere near Spurs level of income , I even doubt they will overtake WHU in the next money league.
They might have the richest owners but that doesn't make them the richest club.
Income is only part of the equation. How much of it you are willing to spend also matters. They will spend every single £ they’re allowed to under FFP, we never have and never will under ENIC. That will go towards mitigating the income gap.

Agree. That deal primarily happened because of Leicester's need to improve the balance sheet before the close of the Fiscal Year on June 30th. Levy probably went into full Vulture-mode in the negotiations. Let's see what happens now that that particular pressure is off for most of the selling clubs. We live in hope, but last year, our window fell almost flat on its face after July 1st....

I think Levy’s doing a really good job. He got that magnificent stadium built and had all sorts of sports and events planned for it but instead, less than a year later, a pandemic lockdown happened and instead he had to take out loans to cover it all. I’m sure he had to breathe deeply then especially as none of us knew how long the lockdown and pandemic would last.

Now, he’s got teams of people negotiating all kinds of sports and concerts. Everyone at Spurs are chasing their tails to catch up with pre-covid. We’ve had some of the biggest names in entertainment coming to us - Lady Gaga last year and Beyoncé this year. This will all work out finance-wise. Have patience and give the guy some credit for steering us through some very choppy waters.

Haha this is a great wind up post.

Ah no, this is absolutely my genuine opinion mate.

I think the work Levy has done in growing the club outside of football has been really undervalued by fans. People take the piss out of go kart tracks and Beyonce but what if having these extra revenue streams are what allow us to go and get Maddison.

People also go on about his penny pinching and sure, sometimes it seems like he spends a fiver to save a pound. But again, what if getting the Deki discount and going for Vicario over Raya is what allowed us to get Maddison over the line?

As everyone has said there is still work to be done but we need to start giving credit where its due instead of painting the man as some sort of pantomime villain.

Everyone deserves some praise when doing a good job but let's not get carried away here. We have signed 2 players and sold none to date.
Let's wait until end of window before getting too excited.
And even if we view it as spurs performing well this window the board have 5 years of poor decision making to make up for so one window is a start but it would only be that

I don't believe we could only afford to buy James Maddison with the extra revenue streams we get from the new stadium. We are the ninth richest club in the world making over £400 million in revenue a year

Levy has struck gold with our fanbase.

We can do more. We make more than Chelsea and arsenal.

You can praise levy/the commercial officer for creating more revenue.

In parallel, you can also criticise levy for being too risk adverse. We could spend as much as arsenal, but you get the feeling that he doesn't want to push the boat out.

And why do we make over £400m revenue a year? Would Levy have anything to do with that?

Some of you lot are so tunnel visioned.

To me, it doesn't seem like we use all this extra revenue they generate. A majority of clubs in the premier league can afford to buy players for £40 million.

No matter how the repayments are structured, we are still paying off a 1 billion pound stadium.

Well we don't really seem to be spending a lot of this extra revenue he is raising. Honestly, the Tories get criticised on here but ENIC use the club to build a multi-purpose arena (with the debt against the club of course) to massively increase their potential profit and still also charge the fans some of the dearest ticket prices in the world and he gets praised for what he has done for the club.

You're right, £40m porro + £30m Deki + Udogie + £40m Maddison + £16m GK is no different to signing N'Jie and Kevin Wimmer.

See what I mean about tunnel vision?

Why did we spend a billion pound building a stadium if we are just going to use the extra money we make just to pay the debt off?

Are we going to have to wait 15-20 years before we might be able to spend more money?
