Well the way OKeefe is speaking on twitter it’s either VDV or Tapsoba as an “expensive” CB and a cheaper option.

if VDV is the quoted 30 million and the choice we go with, it is hardly an expensive signing these days imo.
Love the way people are ALREADY writing him off because he's cheaper even though they haven't watched either guy play and it's Ange's decision.

Not sure if people are writing him off really. The issue is they're sold on Tapsoba so comparing to the one they really want. You never know though he could be like similar aged players under Poch. He could explode for us like Walker for example who at the time Poch took over was not so convincing either. I like to think of the squad shaping up like the one Poch inherited rather than the one that it developed into. VDV certainly fits the profile of players we had back then. Just a young a collective of potential for Ange to mould.

It'll be what Ange is happy with. Regardless of the cost of the player.

It's already been said that we've got target 1,2,3,4 for a position. If we don't get we move on, Ange is of the belief he can coach any of the identified players to where they need to be.

Can we stop using the 'weak investment' argument as a reason to bash the club. It's tiring.

We have the money, we've spent it in the past... there's evidence. We need to spend wisely.. so spunking £60m on a CB just to satisfy the Bomba crowd on twatter doesn't interest me.

bashing people as the bomba crowd because we want proper investment makes no sense. We always full short in the window. Let's pay proper money for the first choice there is no excuse. Even without Europe Arsenal spent big and we are in a very similar financial position.

Yeah exactly. Another way OKeefe could put it is one that’s decent and one that isn’t up to standard..

We will never learn that to buy cheap, you buy twice.. if that is the case.
This dude could be phenomenal for all you know
He isnt shit because he isnt the one you want
He just isnt the one you and many others want
If the manager wants him that's fine after all it's the manager that gets the sack if it all goes wrong

Worth pointing out though that it does seem that what you see as being the required level of investment does involve debt rather than using available profit. And that’s fair enough, it’s what most clubs are doing, especially Arsenal.

Sure but i also think even spending a little over what we do would be good. We have the lowest wage/turnover ratio in the league but yet expect champions league and the highest ST prices. It's simply not sustainable.

I don’t disagree (point only made because I think some people believe we are sitting on pots of profit).

But it’s that change - to overspend - we need to see from Levy. he does still seem stuck to sustainability and only took out debt on the stadium as bricks and mortar are safer investment than footballers.

With the capital appreciation of the club now being so high, it really is the least we as fans deserve from the Board.

Totally agree with you. Arsenal in comparison will have Gabriel, Saliba, Kiwior, Tomiyasu, White, Timber.
I mention Timber, White and Tomiyasu as they are all capable of playing at CB. Pretty much all of those came in recent windows too. If we want to rebuild properly it simply has to be VDV and Tapsoba. We’d be one injury or suspension away from bringing in Dier or a Lenglet and back to shipping goals like last season.

Option 1 isn't necessarily better than option 2, he may just be ahead in development and experience to the extent he may slot in sooner. In that case if you can get option 1 it is preferable but not necessarily at a far greater cost.
Personally I am still in the I want both option 1 & 2 camp.

I would mention that they have no actual orthodox rb.

Jokes on them though, cause we have no recognised orthodox cb...

TBH i know absolutely nothing about either.
Are they both (VDV and Tapsoba) capable of playing LCB?

If one is more comfortable there then he would be my preference (if we can only get 1 of the two)

Listening to Lyall Thomas interview on Last Word on Spurs and he said he does not think VdV is particularly close and he thinks Spurs are negotiating for 5 CBs then making the choice (nothing groundbreaking) but mentioned the 5 are VdV, Tapsoba, Lenglet, Tosin, and he THINKS Guehi but hes not 100% certain on him

VDV moreso as is left footed but Tapaoba could play there.

I'd only take Gabriel or Saliba out of the grouping you listed. People here would've been furious if we signed Kiwior/White/Timber.

EDIT: Can't believe the WTFs on here, Kiwior is no better than Rodon, Timber is essentially Sanchez when we bought him in 2017, and do I really need to get into the man with the fake tan?

If you are using Arsenal as a comparison then you should also recognise that it took them multiple seasons to put that defence together. Their best defender, Saliba, was brought in as a promising youngster and they invested years in him before he reached his current level.

They had multiple seasons with holding and others as backups.

We need to be realistic about where we are in our rebuild. I'd love it of we could bring in multiple quality centre backs, but that is a hope rather than an expectation. It's not realistic to expect to do it all in one window.

We are still early on in the rebuild. This is likely to take several windows. If we have to rely on Dier/Lenglet as a backup then that is a bit disappointing, but not the end of the world.

This is the the same Arsenal defence that conceded the same amount of Home league goals as us last season?
And more than Forest, West Ham and Palace at home.

Honestly are some of you imposters, the twerking for Arsenal needs to stop!!!
