Well it's about probability and percentages isn't it as with all transfers. We all know what we have right now isn't good enough, and that is pretty much unanimous.

So lets look at it objectively. If we are buying players in that we expect(Ange and the board) to be first choice starters is it more likely they understand the system, their team mates and managers instruction with more or less time with them? The CB is going to be a player that was identified weeks ago and has been gettable for ages. If we pull a Wolrldie rabbit out of the hat I'll take it all back but that is incredibly unlikely.

So my question to you is simple. Is it more or less likely for us to drop points with a back line full of strangers who aren't clear on what the manager wants them to do, or having a backline that have been training together for a few weeks and with a keeper that's also new?

I also find the endless vitriol towards Levy which permeates nearly every single thread on this forum tedious in the extreme. But our failure to sign a top quality CB to partner Romero is baffling. It’s not just this window. It’s been going on for years.
And all I’m saying is let’s wait and see what the score is when the window closes.

When are people going to learn?

You watch the same movie unfold every fucking summer with Levy at the helm.

The way we recruit and do our business won't change until Levy is relieved of this remit.

He's proved time and time again that haggling every last penny comes ahead of what's best for the team at any given time.

I get we can't be held to ransom but fucking hell this has become ridiculous and every manager is hamstrung by it.

I understand this but what’s even more strange is we have spent in other positions, like we spent big on Richarlison who spent most of last season on the bench. We spent millions on a RB who we sent out on loan. We have spent millions accumulating CMs who are yet to make any real impact. It’s not like we haven’t been spending at all.

We are now getting to a point where this potentially could, and probably will cost us points. When you consider that this is likely to be the most competitive season the Premier league has ever seen it's imperative they come in sooner rather than later, or the cost at the end of the season could be no Europe for the second year in a row.
Same shit different season trix. I honestly just give up quite frankly. The club just lets you down time and time and time again. How hard is it just buy fkin cbs for once. Every single manager tells us we need them. We have Ben fkin Davies starting at lcb in a back 4 in a high fkin line.

But that's too late. If it's a deadline day signing, they've missed brentford, man utd, Bournemouth and 1 day to prepare against Burnley. I'm normally one for patience but there's no excuse now

I can’t imagine that this isn’t linked to the destiny of our current no. 10.

I’m getting so sick of hearing this every year
But it’s not wrong though is it? If your anger is that it hasn’t been done now, fine. But that seems quite short termist if a solution to a 4-5 year problem is two weeks after your deadline.

Mate it's not rocket science. We badly need to improve that position by adding more quality.

No guarantees with any signing but it's much more likely by adding quality to an area of weakness improves us defensively and sees us accumulate more points over the course of the season as a result.

Delaying to address that need will most likely cost us points. That's not an unreasonable assumption at all.

I mean, come on.
I think it is more complicated than rocket science. It’s crystal ball predictions based on nothing other than an imaginary person being singed at a certain time in July.

That’s fair enough and I agree to an extent. I think it is a legitimate discussion point though because it has caused issues for years. It just seems like such an oversight and personally I think it could potentially hamper the start to our season.

or maybe the CBs we are linked to are not that good that we want to fork out insane sums on them? Still think the first game will be Dier and Romero and not sure VDV is good enough, not right at the start anyway.

Problems is we are so desperate in here for a CB that it sounds like people just want us to sign anybody.

Of course it’s wrong because of how often deadline day comes and passes without the issue being addressed. The centre backs should’ve been the first thing sorted out this window. We conceded the most goals we have in a season since 2007 last year, and all that’s changed is Lenglet’s loan expiring. We’ve taken a cheaper option in goal, a free signing for the forwards, and got a cut price deal for Maddison. I really don’t see how there’s any excuse not to go and push the boat out and get this position sorted.

Aye OK.

Let's just be causal about recruiting in general because we don't have a crystal ball.

Do me a favour lol.

sigh. always fucking something.

this.
fucking.
club.

the longer we keep hesitating the more likely any potential selling club is also going to get twitchy about their options and hold on to what they've got. i swear we could create a drama in an empty phone box.
