Of course it’s wrong because of how often deadline day comes and passes without the issue being addressed. The centre backs should’ve been the first thing sorted out this window. We conceded the most goals we have in a season since 2007 last year, and all that’s changed is Lenglet’s loan expiring. We’ve taken a cheaper option in goal, a free signing for the forwards, and got a cut price deal for Maddison. I really don’t see how there’s any excuse not to go and push the boat out and get this position sorted.
"Of course it's wrong".

I have literally zero issue with anyone being angry or annoyed if we haven't resolved this by the end of the transfer window. Will happily be entirely fucked off with you.

What I am (and others are) saying is give it until the window for your own health. If you want. Or don't.

If you don't want to - entirely your choice - then you can't blame people for saying "maybe wait until something is not possible before getting annoyed about it not happening". Especially when it involves things that we have 3% knowledge of (and 0.5% of the global picture of what is going on at the club).

From my angle, genuinely, it comes from making sure fellow fans aren't getting all hot and bothered over things they have little control over and equally little knowledge of.

Love you all.

I get why the club wouldn’t want to pay over the odds for a player. But we’re in such desperate need of a CB, that we will pay a heavy price either way.

Do we want to pay a premium for a player we need, or pay the premium through results on the pitch (which impacts our bottom line)? Sometimes I think the club makes bad business decisions on how to handle losses.

The general rule of thumb is that the first loss is always the cheapest, I.e. don’t let a problem carry on; take the hit and move on. It’s the same with selling players below value. Did we ever benefit from dragging our heals over selling all these players who no one wants?

I don't think for a second VDV deal is dead but what we have to remember we have a homegrown quota to consider & of the current 12 we have a few that are looking to leave either permanently or on loan. Sess, Rodan, Tanganga & Kane linked with permanent exit, Spence, Austin, White likely to be loaned leaving us with 7 HG when we require atleast 8. It will come down to what we can get sold at this point and who Ange want to keep...Reguilon hasn't looked awful and is apparently working hard Le Celso & Ndombele have impressed Ange. Once the squad is back in the UK I think Ange will green light who we can move on and then we will see what happens with incomings.

I think a lot of people (not me personally) would consider no European football as a “season is fucked lads”
So you've gone from "people are saying" to "People would consider" which is you putting thoughts into peoples heads.

As I say it's been a problem for many transfer windows not just this one. The patience and belief has run out due to precedents that have been set by those that are still here and still in charge of the very thing they've failed to do over and over again.

The thing is this isn't a premium. 20/25m for a CB is not expensive especially if it's a choice between him and the other option which is around 45m. That also isn't expensive.

It would be great for once if we just backed a manager properly and stopped giving them the Rodons or Lenglet's or Spence's that not a soul asked for.

Completely & utterly frustrated with way this window is going. I stupidly assumed we will have a CB ready for the tour.
Now , I wonder if we will get even 1 good CB signing this window.
Utter shambles of a management.

How many CB’s are we going to have as our “top targets” without actually signing one? Skriniar, Pau Torres, Kounde, Bastoni, now the current two. They do realise it’s a position you can’t scrimp on surely? Once you’ve got two top class CB’s then you can start to look for value in young CB’s to succeed them. I hope we get some news on Gvardiol to City because then we’ll have no excuse not to get a deal done as we’ll know exactly how the market is looking for us

What's "mildly annoying" is the fact we always put ourselves in this position.
Go into a new season, where the coach and players are working hard to drill a brand new system (to the players) and then a week or two into the season, go, there's your new CB/LB/CM etc, and expect instant bedding in and results.

It's so unrealistic and yet we seemingly find ourselves in this position more times than not.

Sure no new signing is guaranteed success but we seem to actively hamper them.

Surprised we've never had a player fully kitted up parachuting in from a plane above onto the right wing in the middle of a game ;)

I’m sorry but I simply don’t get the logic of those “waiting until the end of the window”.

We’ve needed a CB for MONTHS & nothing has changed between then, to suggest delaying is satisfactory.

Is everyone losing their minds over 1 report? Players aren't even back yet and I doubt anything would happen while away. It would be pointless with them unable to integrate with the squad. Definitely need to get it sorted quick but we could be close for all we know.

Personally think it will be Tosin instead of VdV but we'll see. No doubt the later it goes the worse the options get. Not losing my shit just yet.

Our goals scored tally last season was 70 - our highest for 5 years, and our third-highest in the last decade.

The reason we did so badly, is not because we couldn't score - it was because we conceded 50% more goals than our ten-year average. Because our defence is diabolical.

So this "it's okay, we'll just score more goals!!" line is transparent cack.
Firstly that’s not what I’m saying I’m just saying its a possibility as a result of hiring a manager the prioritises attacking football. It’s possible we concede less goals next season. It’s possible we sign a CB next week and he’s brilliant or shit or a million things inbetween.

I don’t even know what the disagreement is here. We all agree we need a CB, we all agree, like with any signing the earlier the better, I’m just challenging the writing everything off because of the timing of one signing, albeit in a important area.

This really should have been sorted before pre season, before Maddison, before any other signing. We leaked 60 goals last season and so far we are going into the season with the same back line.

I guess its the usual story of ,lets sell players before we can buy.

Lo Celso is off the sell list. Sanchez Spartak deal isnt going through. Sess got a injury cannot be moved. Tanguy has no takers. Spence on loan. No big takers for Rodon.

Its all comes down to if we can sell Harry for a big fee.

I guess we will sign VDV once Kane fee is agreed.

Ok I’ll say people are saying if that makes any difference to my general point of what you said in your original post (it doesn’t)

People are saying if we don’t get European football next year it’s a fucking disaster. The tone of your post was that because we haven’t got a CB in NOW or 2 weeks ago it’s likely to result in us getting no European football for the 2nd time in a row which to most of the virgins on here equals a fucking disaster hence why we’ve got endless amounts of people shitting the bed
