So just sign some centre backs and take the hit if we don't sell him. It's not like we can't, it's that we won't. Honestly there's no point holding onto Kane if you have no intention to be competitive. Sort the defence out and leave ourselves with a strong squad with Kane. If we sell Kane on deadline day we still have a strong squad without desperately running around for signings.
Both this season and last we signed players quickly and decisively at the start of the window. Some of the signings were good value, some weren't.

We went out of our way to sign Porro for a manager who was failing and was sure to leave.

So the idea that we are cheap or negligent in not signing Centre backs specifically cannot be right. There must be some kind of complications as to who want and how to get them. Perhaps this Kane situation has only complicated it further.

If we see us in breaking 'advanced negotiations' announcements with Wolfsburg, Leverkusen et al then one can safely assume that we've got an agreement with Bayern.

If radio silence then most likely still horse-trading over Kane and bollocks to the collateral damage of not having the right personnel in for Ange to start the season strongly.

I know which one sounds more plausible....

The way things are going we'll have our squad nice and sorted for 5th game of the season after the international break.

Definitely won't come back to bite us! (y)

Where's the "they wouldn't be flying over if they're not finalising the deal" club gone?

How do we know it's not finalized?

(And I think most expected the parameters of the deal to be finalized today, and the details hammered out over the week)

Sky saying £20m gap and we're insisting on a buyback clause. Wonder what Bayern's latest offer was.

If that’s accurate I don’t think it happens now. 20 mil is a significant number, unless we convince them to give up Tel to cover the extra (which should 100% be the play) I just don’t see BM going up even 10 mil.
Really? Man I hope so but I was thinking the exact opposite, if all they have to do to close the deal is another 10m and a few more addons I think they’ll be fairly pleased…

I bet it's 100 mil or no deal for Kane... as it should be.

So question for the masses:

Assume that Kane is definitely leaving (i.e. he and the club know, but the deal has not been announced) - what part should he play in the match against Shakhtar?

I go back and forth - but I am currently leaning towards keep him, and the distraction, away, given that the team is preparing for the season.

But, I can also see wanting to give him a late run out to say his good byes. I would let him say his good byes via social media - like most players, and keep the squad focused on the task at hand.

The video says at least £20 million apart in valuations.

As I’ve said for a while, this will go on until the end of the window. It will overshadow the start to the season. Come on guys we’ve all seen this movie before.

Depends if Levy's willing to hold to that fee or actually negotiate. Can see Bayern going up 10m but probably not 20m.

The centre back one is the craziest though. Sure we signed good players but more squad competition and not first team defenders. This window hasn't been much different, improve some areas but not the biggest problem area. It shouldn't take Kane money to get that sorted.

Has to be given a proper send off in the stadium. Bring him on with 5 minutes to go, not worth risking a major deal with an injury.

Maybe if it was euros but 20 million pounds will be a large jump for BM. At the back of their mind they will be thinking about signing him on a pre contract in Jan. Not idea for them and obviously more risky but if Kane’s camp have told them they will def be interested then I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t offer what we want.

Its very easy to just throw a £5-10m number out there like its not real money. But say it slowly.... that's £5 to £10 MILLION pounds. I get its frustrating (and we should still have signed centre backs etc) but it is amusing how people think that we should just give up a possible Ten Million Pounds to get something done quickly. I certainly wouldn't hire you as a CEO or CFO. 🙃

It's not really just about negotiating the financial value though, as others have said.

If a business needs to make significant staff stages, they try to do so as quickly/efficiently as possible as it can have a detrimental impact on the business.

Ramp this up by order of magnitude given the interest in football and how concentrated it is in terms of people (squads and mangement being relatively small so a few unsettled or distracted people is a lot), losing time trying to extract 5-10mil isnt necessarily the optimum outcome.

Harry's taking preseason minutes from Richarlison/Son playing up top, and changes what roles people are playing in training also most likely. Then add on top potential delay to transfers incoming (not sure if that's linked but quite possibly given our lack of activity), none of this is great for our season if the end result is kane leaving in two weeks time.

They can just go to Saudi and get an extra 10M for Mane...

Every other f@cker seems to play preseason for their clubs when we’re about to buy them, so why not give him a run out / send off unless he’s no longer officially ours.
