The whole league has improved massively since that point not just us. It's all relative. We were 5-0 down to Newcastle last season in 20 minutes so yes results happen. Anyway it's not about who was the worst of the three failed chairmen is it. It's plain and simple, has the current one done enough to still be the current chairman, and IMO he hasn't. Yes I understand there is very little we can do just like there is very little we can do about Sunak right now. We are stuck with them until we aren't, but I don't hear people saying there's no point criticising the current government because Sunak says he's trying to change things and admits he's made mistakes. The fact is the numerous mistakes made and the damage it's already caused is enough to want change regardless.
Levy has been a failure & has thrown the club into disrepute multiple times in the last 4 years alone. If he wasnt a minority owner of the club, he’d been sacked as chairman numerous times over for continued failings on & off the pitch. Things are going well now & everyones predictably back on his side but the fact is, he will not change his spots & he will show that time & again in this new “era.” The club needs fresh faces & ideas at the board level & above. This group has tried & failed numerous strategies over the last 20+ years & lately the club has only veered from one disaster to the next which should show they are in over their heads at the level the club is at.

It was in direct response to the guys talk about Levy’s tenure and the previous incumbents. The only way to measure that is over the same period of time surely? After all see your (relevant) Sunak Boris comment. From what I see Schollar was Chairman 12 years prior to Sugar. I’m sorry but if anyone sees these as Glory Days, apart from the obvious Cup Finals then they are living it cloud cuckoo land. Some of the players during this period were quite abysmal and performances to match. Anyone want to stick thei hands up and remember Bolton (in the division below us) in the Cup on a Wednesday night? Lose 6-1 away and it should have been 7. Tell me about Calderwood when we lost 4-0 away at Coventry. I know results happen but there were long dark periods. We are still on an upward trajectory. Unfortunately there is probably a ceiling we’ve hit without a slight change. Hopefully we will do so.

God I remember that Bolton loss. Wasn't that around the same time we lost 7-0 to Newcastle?:banghead:

Don't remember that one tbh - probably tried to erase it from my memory. Anyway, we trekked up to Bolton (old ground) on a Wednesday night and were shocking. They actually scored a 7th that went across the line but the ref didn't see it. All the Spurs fans were booing him and singing it was in. Remember they were in the next division down. Walker was in goal. Just looked it up (first time I've been able to bring myself to). 1996/97. Ah, them there good old days that we all hanker for eh?

So in summary average position under ENIC up about 2 places, yay but won nothing, boo. Beautiful stadium, yay, but greed causing prices through the roof, boo. ENIC ain’t Scholar so we’re doing no Leeds, yay, but 23 years tells us they ain’t owners prepared to do what it takes to win, boo. Always the same arguments to be made on the SC magic roundabout, boo You’re either happy with that, yay, or you’re not, boo, and we’ll be talking about it on here until they’re gone… boo
Its not a question of 'happy with that,...or...not', there is more to the arguement than that.

Yeah it was the same season: https://www.premierleague.com/match/1963 (a couple of days after christmas as well)

The good old days before Levy and his cronies took over.

The earliest I’ve left an away ground - was pissing down and left with about 7 mins to go. Couldn’t take anymore

Was soothed by listening to Derek Jamieson talking about electricity pylons on the long drive home

What a friggin night that was - thanks for that

Back into therapy tomorrow…..

Why not go back to the 60s-80s when we used to win things regularly

but you wouldn’t remember that
And got relegated.

The fact is our average league position is higher in the last 20 years than in any similar period in our history. We have won more games, scored more goals and got more points. And yes, including the 60s when we won stuff and didn't have doped clubs to contend with.

Fair enough, but much of Levy's tenure has been against the backdrop of financial doping and Sugar Daddy clubs hoovering up trophies.
And he didn't fail for 20+ years. If someone thinks that he failed in last few years, that's only because of much bigger expectations which are the result of the work and big progress that happened under him

I honestly would just like for him to take further steps away from football. Allow Munn to run football with his team but just keep check that things are all running smoothly. ENIC to sell a stake in the club and Levy to overlook the transition to new ownership. He's coming towards typical retirement age but I'm sure he is one who will work a lot longer. Hopefully he takes a back seat over time though. I would love to see the club take off from the platform he helped build.

I didn’t want to go to it in even more detail but the last 8-10 years have been even better than the first. But I’ll shut up in here now.

I think its hard to measure success over 20 years. Enic certainly improved us after Sugar and got us into the European places. Once we have set ourselves in that position for a while you have to measure success on where we are at that time. So with the resources we built and where we got to with multiple top 4 finishes that's the new measurement for success. Now you ask are Enic capable of pushing beyond top 4 or could a new owner take us further from where we are now.

Yes, agree with this, but you can't assume a new owner can or will take us further.

Most of the takeovers the Prem has seen in recent years seem to end in disappointment and disaster.

I prefer stability in the boardroom myself, and to focus on being a fan and enjoying football. I don't see the need to obsess over Levy, ENIC or who the owners are.

I think people should take the time to watch the Bloomberg interview. Especially the end when they get into Mourinho and Conte.

Says video unavailable but assuming it’s this one (or includes this part)

First time I’ve heard him say he’s open to it. He’s obviously on a charm offensive….

There’s no way he is going to sell a stake.

He floated it about 2 years ago and when some interested parties bit he quickly nullified it. Our best chance of ridding this idiot from our club is Uncle Joes daughter or granddaughter. Im not au fait in corrupt Joes family affairs. But there is a female on his side who wants more control in our club. I can only hope she has a better business sense than the idiot.

And lol at him giving a shit about shareholders. He ripped those fans off big time. Unforgivable.

There's nothing new or surprising in that Bloomberg interview.

I dont agree. We now know for the first time from this interview, that annually the club makes £20m to £30m from the other events and this is put towards capital costs. Ie. paying off the interest on the loans as I always expected the plan was. This has never been confirmed before. It just shows why they were so important and why the stadium being closed for so long after it just opened really hurt us.

The full interview and especially the last few minutes are probably Levy being as honest as he has ever been and actually admitting to getting things wrong in his desperation to win. I think the full interview is a lot more revealing than the fan forum questions and builds on the answers he gives in that quite nicely.
