We should’ve built the statue the second we saw Dier off the team sheet.

If that Romero red and VDV injury hadn’t happened I honestly believe we would be top now by some margin. What a transformation.

It would be the biggest crime in football history if the board doesn’t back him in January. Not expecting the world, but give the man some extra tools that’ll tide us over until the summer. There is no other option.
Absolutely this. We got very unlucky, in the space of that one mad game against Chelsea, where we lost the all the key, new and improved players. Maddison, VDV, Romero, Udogie... and then later Sarr. Without that, we'd have battered Chelsea, we'd have certainly battered Wolves, and everyone else since then. And we'd be miles out ahead of the Gooners.

I'm hoping it balances out over the season, as Fergie used to say.

So true mate, pretty sure we'd not just be top but top with a reasonable gap.

Still wouldn't back us to win the title this season even if that had panned out like that because with the lack of squad depth we are always a few injuries away from our performances levels really dropping but the magic of Ange is there for all to see and when we get all our players fit and have added 2 more windows worth of signings for squad depth we will be scary good consistently.

Yeah without the injuries and sending offs in that Chelsea game there’s no way I see us losing to all Chelsea, Wolves, Villa and West Ham. Just nothing in our form up to that point suggested we would lose all those matches. Quite the opposite. I think we would be at least six or seven points better off which would put us joint top or joint with Arsenal - and that’s being conservative I think.

But as @fishhhandaricecake says we were always a couple of injuries away from struggling and it was bound to happen at some point. It’s true we’ve had a lot of players out but our form was always in danger of being seriously derailed if we lost just one or two from Romero, VDV, Maddison, Son etc. It’s not that you expect to have two players equally good for every position but the drop off in certain positions is just too big right now.

Build the statue now.

I don’t care if he wins any trophies. I absolutely love watching this team play football.

I love his courage, his aggression, his honesty.

Fucking legend already.

Spot on mate.

Exciting thing is if this is how well we are playing now with so many injuries and suspensions and challenges, once we get our players back and once we have a few more transfer windows to add depth to the squad the level of performance and consistency will likely be very high.

Exiting times and just keep enjoying the ups and downs of the journey.

Glad we got the win yesterday that our recent performances have deserved. Another loss or draw would’ve been a bit hard to take for the players and fans, but a scintillating performance and win against a top side was just what we deserved :)

I think next year’s squad will be the most talented group ever. The core group is already near the top - but upgrading 3-4 players would make the squad really special.

There was a point in the ground yesterday I think after Johnson hit the bar or Son's volley went wide.

The whole south stand just stood and applauded the football, was great.

And to think a couple of nutters on here said the players might lose faith in the way Ange wants them to play 🤦‍♂️ yea right the players will be loving this as much as the fans are!
This was never going to happen. Players love working hard when they're allowed freedom to express themselves and attack. It's a lot harder to motivate players in a rigid system which is negative. When you lose games sitting back its easy to lose faith. When you lose games but keep attacking you keep the faith.

I know exactly the moment you're talking about. It was the same sequence of play which ended with Son volleying wide.

It was one of the best things I've ever experienced at a Spurs match. The entire ground just stood up and started roaring with appreciation. Every single fan was swept up in the moment.

It's just one moment but I truly believe it's an indication that something special is happening here. Please God just let us back Ange with whatever he needs.

I shared this moment with my 11 year old son, we just held each other... tears of joy rolling down our cheeks..

Record after 16 games last season and this season is identical!

P16 W9 D3 L4 GF 33 GA 23 Pts 30

It was post World Cup last season that results really started to fall away, so hope that we can now push on after yesterday.

It was post World Cup last season that results really started to fall away, so hope that we can now push on after yesterday.

Difference is the football though, and the whole mood around the club.

I agree we fell off a cliff after the WC and the results were ok up to that point. But it’s here on this forum in black and white, people weren’t particularly happy with the performances at the time, and there was even a whole theory about Conte having a masterplan of conserving player energy until after the World Cup to try to explain why so many of the performances were so limp. They were probably some of the most dull, boring, uninspiring performances I can remember as a Spurs fan of over thirty years.

Then of course there was all the damaging speculation about Conte not wanting to sign a new deal or commit.

There was also the speculation around Kane who was scoring nearly all of our goals and the fear what might become of us if and when he did leave - who would score for us? People were literally talking about relegation or becoming a mid table team for years to come.

So IMO there is just no comparison where we are now compared to where we were this time last year. It’s a funny coincidence that the points, goals ect are exactly the same but the similarities end there.

Sarr n Richie coming in were crucial to this win, but the way we set up is all Ange

and today we got to see again how sexy Ange's style of football can be when the players are good enough and can execute what Ange expects

The midfield interplay between Biss Sarr n Deki combining with Porro and Destiny were smooth and penetrative

Richie pressed so hard and well and worked his socks off and deserves his goals, such a weapon to have to have 2 different no 9’s

Having an aerial threat in the box like Richi really enabled us to mix it up a bit. Not much point putting crosses in to Sonny, but Richi was really putting himself about and creating lots of gaps in their defence. Shame he couldn't bag the hat trick though.
