That being said we all know injuries etc are killing us and Ange’s hands are tied to an extent.
This is the key thing. We all know we are decimated by injuries, worse than decimated in fact, that’s only 10% casualties. Over half the squad are injured or suspended.

Brighton have had a week off too.

I get the clamour to play the kids, but he very obviously doesn’t think they are ready. They are only on the bench because there’s no one else to sit there. We all know Dier isn’t good enough for this system, and he’s been injured recently too.

People are going to have put their big boy pants on and accept that this is going to be a tough six weeks. There’s really not much we can do about it. Even if we sign a defender on January the first, we’ll still have more than half the squad injured, suspended or away on interntional duty.

That’s not “on Ange.”

He should probably have made subs earlier though, but I’m not sure it would have made a difference in the grand scheme of things.

@Trix your repetitive posts and general negativity is starting to drain me a little. It’s got to the stage where I’m 100% convinced you’re either Dorrington/Philips father or you’ve a large wager on them making their prem debut.

Please have a day off.
Put me on ignore then and you won't have to read it. It really is that simple. I'm doing exactly that with folks like yourself, and trust me it works.

As much as I love the big guy. He definitely bottled it tonight with his selection. He is allowed to make mistakes as long as he learns from it. If he however picks the same lineup on Sunday, I'll be very disappointed.

I understand the frustrations of everyone against Ange. But tonight he deserves it for his choices, however it doesn't mean he's still not the right man for the job. He definitely is the man to take us forward, he just needed to be brave with his selection, as he is the one who keeps calling for the players to also be brave.

Onwards and upwards, it's a bitter pill to swallow but end of the day, there were always going to be some hammering for and against us during this transitional season.

We shipped 4 goals anyway mate.

At this point, if im a spurs youth player and I can't get any game time even when there is literally no senior players fit that can play my position, then I'm probably getting my agent to start sounding out clubs for a move.
Brightons whole model is picking up players and giving them minutes to sell on.

It’s a good model and we did it ourselves but I’m not sure it’s where we are at the moment.

As for our kids walking, I’ve been hearing tales of woe about this for as long as I’ve followed Spurs and I can’t remember many youth prospects that we lost who went on to be world beaters.

Bad night all round. Not the greatest team selection from Ange, however the only real change I would have made would be Phillips for Emerson.

The players let us down massively today, Kulu had a bad game, Ricky needs to learn the offside rule, Johnson didn’t get involved and Sonny was by far the worst player on the pitch, he was absolutely atrocious. With that said, we had two goals disallowed for offside, hit the post twice and gifted them 2 goals by stupid penalties.

We have been so unfortunate with injuries, and now the AFCON and Asian Cup are gonna fuck us even more. Give Ange the tools he needs, get rid of the tools that don’t work and we will be a success.

For me the issue with the selection is that we tried Royal and Davies with no Bissouma. It was awful. Why did we return to that?

Love the fact he threw it out there in that interview that we’ve got ten out injured as every other club seem to get the violin treatment if they are missing two or three.
Nothing on Ange for tonight or the next few weeks with the resources he has at his disposal as it’s going to be a brutal six weeks, nothing he can do about it.

I’m not going to put you on ignore because you seem like a sensible fella and you’ll often offer considered opinions on a range of stuff. But there’s definitely a persistent negative vibe creeping through, specifically around the players who seem unable to play the system and also Ange’s management/decision making.

As a senior figure on this site, your posts are noticed more than most. I’d encourage you to lead by example and keep things a little more positive.

The only criticism for me is not playing at least one of the proper CBs on the bench. If they are good enough to be on the bench then they are good enough to start in an emergency

The biggest thing with the injuries/suspensions is that our replacements aren’t even similar play style. Brighton can probably change 5 and the players will have the same play style as the others. We lose VDV and Romero and have Royal and davies in. They struggle to pass the ball well, Lose bissouma and Hojbjerg comes in Maddison out and GLC in. That’s why the rebuild will take a few windows.

It was a shit performance but a lot of that stems from the team selection and tactics for me. These players he's picking are not capable of playing out from the back under pressure. Now throw in the fact Brighton are an effective high pressing and organised team and it's a recipe for disaster. We gave the ball away over and over just like we did against Everton trying to play out because it's so predictable and we don't have the quality to beat their press.

Look I'm not saying we need to sit in or go long every time, but we could, whilst we are without so many technical players at least mix it up a bit and give them something to think about.
100% agree. Just look how many times they got in behind us tonight from a long ball over the top. It Can be effective to mix things up, equally we may want to drop a few yards deeper occasionally and not leave ourselves open so open to the ball in behind as it’s kamikaze at times

Although a frustrating game, he'll be learning who he can trust and who's totally committed going forward.

TBF the bit I've bolded is true. The caveat to this is it's been a heck of a long time since we've had this sort of quality in our youth ranks and they are dominating their age group for a damn good reason. It's that very same reason the better ones have no shortage of admirers.

In fact I've made this very same argument numerous times in the past, and I'm now saying the exact opposite because of the situation and because the quality in the youth ranks is much higher than it was.

I don't want to see Emerson at CB again. Davies filling in as a full back at CB is fine because he knows his surroundings and reads the game well. Emerson has his uses at full back but he has no peripheral awareness at CB where the pitch becomes a lot bigger to position yourself in and he fancies himself to dribble out of the defence too much.

I'm fine with us not changing the style of play too much tbf. But I do think you've got to be giving the young CBs a shot and also playing better stylistic fits from the academy. In sum you can't play like Barca with makeshift CBs and the likes of PEH, Skipp etc.

Even if they're eventually going to be usurped by the returning players, it's good to see who can cut the mustard from the youth now as if we're in Europe next season we're going to need an enormous squad with the intensity at which we play. It's likely we're not going to be able to mould it perfectly in the transfer market so it would be great if we could find at least one internal solution for next season.

He's not wrong though. We had four wing backs on the pitch. Its a miss from Ange. Emersons positional awareness as centre back is dodgy. If he doesn't trust Dier, it would probably be better to play a younger centre back who's used to play in that position and have the positional awareness.
