It really is a sign of how well things are going internally that we locked down our two rising stars to long-term deals. It would not appear that either hesitated to commit to this project.
I thought after the issues caused by giving Kane a long contract most players would avoid signing them again but first Udogie and now Sarr so I’m glad to say it looks like I was very wrong.

Superb news to get Sarr and Udogie tied down to new contacts. Entirely the right way to do things.

For me - Sarr is the best box-to-box CM we have in the squad - and its not that close.

Maddison, Bentancur and Bissouma are probably better overall footballers - but none are better in the 8 role than what Sarr brings to the team.

The 6 and 10 roles require great technical ability - and calmness on the ball, particularly in a crowd - Bentancur, Maddison and Bissouma are all better in those situations than Sarr. But the 8 role - in Ange's tactics - requires much more energy and stamina - which is where Sarr excels. He can be reliably making a run into the attacking box, and can get back to defend in his own box if necessary. With the inverted FBs playing more of a DM role when bringing the ball out, Sarr's role is less about being able to take the ball in a crowd, and more about his ability to find pockets of space, and then run with the ball if required.

Bentancur is probably 2nd best in the 8 role - but, particularly after his injuries, but even before he does not have the same levels of energy and stamina that Sarr has to get up and down the pitch all match. There is no question that Bentancur has much more technical ability, and is a better passer - but that is not the key ingredient to the 8 role in this system. And I trust Sarr a lot more to cover for a FB who gets stuck upfield.

My preference would be to play Bentancur as the 6 - because I think he reads the game very well, and does not need to be as aggressive as Bissouma, and he is a better passer - but I also think we need to go easy on his return, and if he rotates in for Bissouma and Sarr - I think we are a better overall team.
Bentancur has all the energy and stamina needed for the 8. It's just whether he can return to those levels. I do like the mix of Bentancur, Sarr and Maddison though and Sarr is only going to keep getting better.

He was at top Bents level vs Villa ..for 28 mins. Truly brilliant then imo .

They'll take these deals because it ensures good stable money for the long term in case they get injuries or fall out of form. Can't blame them.

Disappointed that they didnt do something similar to the Poch arm around the player photo.

Could have had Ange with them in a playful headlock
Ange doesn't have time to play up for the cameras.

I'm sure he is the one who has said no to having any sort of "Ange Cam" for our youtube channel.

I mean that thing existed even for Stellini. Dark times.

Just fantastic business, both in finding such a talent for relative sod all, and then doubling down on it immediately when it becomes clear that there's something special there.

Will be seen as one of the best midfielders in the world within 5 years. Superb to get him under new deal

If you'd told me a year ago that the future of the club would be Sarr and Udogie I would've been sceptical, but here we are. Both absolutely crucial, sky's the limit for both. Glad we rewarded them with new contracts.

Sarr is apparently better than you are giving him credit for...
What season are you getting those stats from where Bentancur has played twice as many minutes as Sarr?

Yeah I see that logic. I just didn’t think the players would want to commit themselves to us for that long. I expected a four or maybe five year deal.

I guess at Udogie and Sarr’s age though a six year deal still takes them to around 26 or 27 instead of Kane who’s deal took him onto his thirties.

Did you really just compare stats from Bentancur playing in a conte 2 with Sarr in an Ange 3 with a straight face?

So it turns out the correct business model is to make sure the player is good and then give them a ridiculously long contract.

Why are we comparing Bents and Sarr?

to completely differently players.

just to add if we can keep Bents and los celso fit our midfield is insane with so many options.
