Someone, please source a graphic to prove to my Arsenal-supporting friend that he actually played plenty of forward passes, contrary to what this rose-tinted buffoon is claiming.

A good article and agree with everything he says about Dier. However, he is partly undermined by saying that "Daniel Sturridge has been a spark every time he's stepped on the pitch" and incredibly "the treacherous waters of Group B."

No direspect to Wales but to call Wales, Russia and Slovakia "treacherous waters" is a slight exageration.

He's maturing into a top class player midfielder. We're lucky to have him.

The only area he needs to really improve on is his technique in tight spots. He did occasionally look vulnerable last year when teams pressed us high up the pitch, and, tbh, sometimes looked a little bit like a defender playing in midfield.

I was really impressed by Dier's performance last night and amazed at his incredible improvement since he first came. Yes Dier's older but Poch must have had a lot to do with this.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if he is captain or not. We now have leaders (in a more quiet lead by example than shouty pointy way) across our team whether its Hugo, Toby, Dier, Kane

Anyone else notice he wasn't wearing black boots! Just didn't seem right him wearing pink and yellow last night!
Regardless of boot colour that was a fantastic performance, best I've seen from him, I know the Slovaks gave him more time on the ball than he will get when playing better teams, but his passing yesterday was top drawer - Looked like a deep lying playmaker at times!
Spurs and England Captain in the making right there.
I love Eric Dier, Eric Dier loves me.

L'Equipe's ratings are very strict, players rarely get above 6. Doesn't help that despite his brilliance yesterday, he really had an easy game to play in, given Slovakia's tactics.

I was amazed at some of his passing between the lines yesterday, they were accurate and with the right amount of pace on them, loved the way he was pinging balls to other players, good stuff.

I wouldn't mind so much if they were actually strict, but Henderson a 7!!!?
Dier was easily England's best player and whilst I actually though Hendo did ok, he was definitely not our best player

His 40 yard+ ball to Sturridge in the first half was the pass of the game

Nah, surely the 'lift' to Sturridge was a better pass? If it was Iniesta or Xavi playing that ball, the whole world would be talking about it.

Either way, the lad is getting better & better and we're lucky to have him. The pessimist in me is now concerned about how long it'll be until the big boys start circling & showing an interest. All the pundits etc are talking about Walker & Rose, but I think Dier has outshone both of them.

Any news on why he went down during the second half? He didn't receive treatment but it had me worried for a minute.

Not sure if anyone has already answered you, but it looked to me as though he gestured as if to say he was struggling for breath? I tried rewinding to see if he took a knock in the side or something, but had no success. The way he was curled up & 'rocking' on his back, it was pretty much exactly what someone does if they get winded. He seemed to go pale, too, but was back to being himself after a few minutes, so hopefully was nothing serious.

o_O

Doing long balls doesnt make you a playmaker, thats like saying gerrard was a playmaker

No, but world class 'lofts' over a defence that's camped on the penalty spot, to create a chance out of nothing for Sturridge certainly can & do make you a playmaker.

Yeah I was curious if it was something like that or if he had been or felt sick...

Somehow this got a disagree :rolleyes:.. As well as his superb passing, I also noticed he was pinging 40/50 yard balls with either foot. I didn't know he had that in his game.

Edit: The disagree was from me. Must've pressed it while trying to scroll on my phone .. Amended now fella. Sorry (y)
