The biggest problem I have with Winks is how attractive he is. My other favourite players over the years like Kane and Bale have had faces that made it difficult to crack one out whilst thinking about them. With Winks I'm halfway there even before he plays decent football. This is going to be very hard to explain to the wife.

Maybe show her his pic and she can join you? :)

Is Harry Winks the answer to England’s midfield problems? Josh in Edgware
England are not blessed with midfielders. We need more creativity and this gives Winks a massive opportunity.

I like his ability to handle the ball. Winks is a snappy passer. Everything is sharp.

Despite his lack of Premier League experience he has real confidence. He may not have the athleticism of Victor Wanyama but he is still quick.

Winks is exactly the sort of player who is benefiting from the training regime under Mauricio Pochettino. Good passers benefit from structured training sessions.

No offence to all the Britons in here, but he's the kind of player that the typical English football culture seems to have a hard time appreciating. His game is about control. While having the ability to pass agressively, he tends to keep thing ticking and dictates the tempo.

Presicely the type of player that (I've even seen in here) gets the label "neat and tidy, but what does he do?" by the same simpletons that asks the same questions about Carrick and couldn't understand why Gerrard and Lampard never worked as duo.

That Southgate called him up instead of someone like Noble is a sign that he's not totally daft.

I love the way he receives the ball ala Modric and turns into space without having to actually touch the ball

He's got a picture of who's around him and let's the ball do the work

Has a turn of pace and a bit of bite too. Very exciting

New Modric? Perfect player to emulate. Build on his defensive pressence and use his passing ability from deeper. Could play him as the deepest midfielder against sides we dominate.

Thought he was excellent today. Ran out of steam in the last few minutes it seemed like but that's understandable given that he started in Madrid. Really impressed though.

Definitely our back 3 can handle most teams outside top 6 without a classic DM.rather have him in those type of games.

I think this week fully puts to bed any argument that Winks can't be relied on to start any given match. If he can do it against Real Madrid (partnered by Sissoko, for crying out loud) and Liverpool with their manic press (again, without Wanyama or Dier next to him), then he can do it against anyone.

He really has hit the ground running in the fist team.

I haven't seen much of Onomah - I wonder how similar they are?

Should We be viewing Winks as a ball playing DM,much like a xabi alonso.I always thought of him as a more attacking partner to say a dier or wanyama. What he does he does very well,as in keep the ball moving, breaking up play a bit.Theres a bit of me that would like to see him have a bit more direct affect on the game,as in assists or shots at goal.Or should I just accept that’s not his role. And his role is to play 10-20 yrd passes and just keep the ball moving.

He's got it in his locker to turn and drive at opponents and his next step is to know when to do it and do it a little more. It was him doing that that made the goal against Madrid and his acceleration is excellent so he can leave opposition players behind.

I think back of a length is likely his natural position in midfield. He's similar to Modric in many ways.
