I think there was some rumour in summer that we wanted barkley to replace dembele. I think it seems reasonable to me now. I hope I am wrong, but it seems that dembele is less dominant in the midfield than he used to be.

Problem is Barkley isnt the player dembele was

Dembele imo does need replacing but I honestly do think Onomah is the closet we have to that skill set and unless we went for keita as he would do a similar job from the limited time I have seen it.

Possibly. One thing I have noted with Dembele though is that he always seems to take a while to get up to speed coming back from an injury.

Yeah, just like no Kane, no Tottenham. Replace with Alli, Toby, Jan, Eriksen. It’s almost like, we’ve got a team full of top class players or somethin’.

Dembele has been one of my favourite players for a good few years.

But yeah, unfortunately I think he's a bit of a fading force now. As mentioned above it can take time for him to get up to speed but it's also becoming obvious that these recurring injury problems are really starting to take their toll.

Really hope he gets back to where he was but I'm not overly optimistic.

I had to follow the game via my BBC app on Saturday as I was on a stag-do and at 0-0 there was a piece of "commentary" that started "What a midfielder Mousa Dembélé is..." before going on to describe how he'd just beaten 3 Arsenal players with a mixture of skill and brute force.

The same player is still in there and once he and Vic are reunited they'll be back to steamrolling their way through opposing midfields for fun (but maybe only once a week).

He's not fading, just has unsolveable injury problems. At best he can only play a game a week, and then combines that with regular niggling injuries.

Still a phenomenal player, just have to accept he's only ever going to be a squad player. Which is fine as I'm gay for Harry Winks, and I'd take 25 demeble appearences a year over 0 dembele appearances

Why are people are saying he's fading? He's hardly played because of injury. When he came on tonight, he was the usual beast IMO.

I think it is the continued fitness issues that cause many to believe he is fading, myself included. Dembele has long struggled with playing more than one match in a week but now, it seems, he is struggling to get back to the point where he can play a full match.

With Winks, we do not miss Dembele nearly as much as Winks, just in a very different way, offers that outlet in the center of the park to relieve pressure.

I think its the beginning of the end, and I think Winks now has taken his starting place for good. I hope I'm wrong but he is now past 30 with a reoccurring injury.. time is against him now.

Winks is now n.1 and he deserves it.
