Only Frank Brettell has a better win rate at 58.73% to Poch 55.22%
Even Bill Nicholson had only 49.03% over 4x as many games.

So what does he need to be considered the best? Trophies? Double?(thatd be unbelievable) Champions League?

He needs to start as a fan, then a ballboy, then progress through the youth squad, then win trophies as a player, get capped for England and then become a multi trophy, double winning, European trophy lifting manager redefining English football, before spending his remaining years scouting and coaching football before becoming club president and dying in his post at the same club he watched on the terraces as a child.

Bill Nic is incomparable.

Poch has the tools to win trophies. If he dosnt he will have the best squad to not win anything since Pleat had Hoddle and Clive Allen

He could be the best manager for us, yet still not win anything

Football's a different beast these days, with all the money in it. It's incredibly difficult to compete at the highest level, let alone win anything

If he wins something he'll be the best in the modern era. You could probably argue that he already is.

We could possibly reach 1 final this year and possibly semi final in the Champions League couple that with a possible 2nd or 3rd place finish, he would def be the best manager in the modern era. We really need to win a trophy to solidify our standing.

This. It's unfortunate that it's all coming together at the same time Man City are playing the best football I've seen in England. If not for them I'd be more confident of a league title soon.

No i was offering a starting point for a debate, and asking what would it take. As i pointed out Pochettinos win rate is quite impressive but is that what matters or is there something more?
The point was to promote discussion, and i'm glad to read we're having that.
I remember the 70s and some of the football we played was great, and some I still wake up having nightmares about. So is it playing style that matters, results, or je ne sais quois?

the list of English clubs that have won something since we last did includes Pompey, Wigan, Swansea, and Brum. He could end up being our best ever manager, and maybe without ever winning the League. but there is no way he'll ever be considered our best ever manager without winning anything.

imo, of course.

(nearly) All great points, and well expressed. I would beg to differ on the last point though ... Poch has a far better squad than Pleat ever had (the incomparable Hoddle notwithstanding ...).

Whatever happens to him while he's with us, he will always be remembered by changing the shit show that he took charge of.

Poch has the potential to become our most successful, but never our greatest. Bill nic lived, breathed and died spurs.

I think winning the prem in today's cash climate or the cl is a acheivement of enormous proportions and I personally would view that as a higher acheivement than past managers.

But billy Nick was just special and beyond for me such a nice humble and all round great guy always had time for a spurs fan ,had a few great chats with him and spurs was his life just like a real fan.
