If Toby doesn’t sign a contract, we should be keeping tabs on Lascelles I reckon.

I know everyone loves De Ligt, and he is a lovely player, but there may be bigger fish in for him.

Lascelles is having a very good season, good pace, physical, and real organising and leadership in an average team. Big question mark is whether he’s a good enough ball player for our style. Would definitely be sending Pleaty...
Absolutely this. If Toby does leave I would love Lascelles. He's a real leader, brave, stubborn and an outstanding defender to boot. Newcastle's record when he's not in the team compares to when he is is terrible.

He kind of reminds me of a Michael Dawson type with his leadership and resoluteness but with a bit more mobility and quality on the ball.

Tie down players to new long-term contracts, bring in young hungry talented players, sell the deadwood and loan out our most promising youngsters to gain real experience.

New Contracts - Hugo, Davies, KWP, Toby, Verts, Dier, Alli, Lamela, Son, Eriksen, Kane
Buy - Pau Lopez ,F.De Jong, Sancho, Arp

Was reading this a little while ago - seen the part where he names 4 English clubs he'd like to join? Clue: he doesn't list Liverpool. :woot:

Wide forward: I appreciate we've just got Moura in but someone with the ability to play up top as well as on the wing would give us that extra dimension. Son, arguably, is able to play this position but I'd want us to be looking at Leon Bailey and Hirving Lozano very seriously. Both slightly impetuous but seem to have that swagger and fearlessness that we are trying to foster at the club. Not sure we have a player in the academy that really fits this remit.

Playmaker: Seems like it should be a done deal but if Malcom doesn't come off then Nabil Fekir as lauded by many on here should be considered. Edwards hopefully will make a case for himself at Norwich but this shouldn't affect his position.

Ball carrier:
so important for us in this team. Relieves pressure, allows for intelligent movement and draws players in. Hopefully Dembele has got some years left in the tank, and hopefully Onomah can take up his mantle but we should be looking at the aforementioned Frenkie De Jong and Tanguy NDombele. Obviously quite different players but I think they will both be fully able to fulfil this role in their own way.

Sessegnon.

Malcom is not a playmaker. I don't know where some of you get that idea

Given we’ve signed Moura and the resurgence of Lamela I don’t see where Malcom would even fit in? If we manage to get Sessegnon then we’ll have 6 quality options behind Kane. Even if we get shot of Janssen, Llorente and Sissoko he’d still be lucky to get on the bench.

We'd use Sessegnon as a LB imo.

Malcom could be one of those 6

He is. He's not a traditional winger like Moura. Just because he doesn't play as a 10, it doesn't mean he's not a playmaker.

Not sure we need a playmaker behind Eriksen. Maybe we do.

We do and we don’t, it all depends on who’s fit in central midfield.

For me this summer:

Lopez in for Vorm (Feyenoord are rumoured to be in form him whereas Lopez will be out of contract, has been in fantastic form for Espanyol this and has the ability to be a long term Lloris replacement).

Sessegnon. I’d personally let Rose go if a hefty bid comes in. Davies is a better all round player, just slow. Sessegnon is versatile and has ample ability to cover both Davies and Son.

Central midfield - minimum one incoming, possibly 2. Concern here is we need an understudy/long term replacement for Dembele, and also depth. I’d sell Sissoko and give Onomah preseason to impress, if not then send him out on loan again.

Given our formations of 4231 and 352, Alli, Eriksen, Son, Lamela, Moura and Sessegnon is sufficient in both quality and depth. GKN, nice lad but doesn’t look like he’s ever going to cut it at this level.

A young striker to support Kane. Arp looks in a similar mould but he’s got next to no experience. It will be interesting to see who we look to bring in. Janssen and Llorente can both go.

In effect, an understudy keeper, Sessegnon, 1st team competition in central midfield and an understudy for Kane.

While i agree with everything you say, it all depends on Daniel.

Possibly and I know we’ll always have injuries and suspensions but with a fully fit squad we’re going to have £30-40m signings not even making the bench.

I still say Sessegnon is the key but i have a feeling we will get "Willan'd"
I think it is less a case of 'Willian-d' and more a case of need. It is a low need position at the moment unless we are offloading some of our attackers. Chelsea and Arsenal are both likely to dump a bunch of money this summer to reup their attack because outside of stars they've been erratic. Liverpool will also be on the prowl for a Coutinho replacement. ManU and City buy attackers for the lols so they'll also be shopping.
