Just read through seventeen pages regarding Werner.

My quick take is that the Club scouting on this one is unbelievable, been kept secret, and is one of quality with a sensible no risk option (ref: Porro, Kulu, Bentancur).

He can slot straight in anywhere across the front line, has pace, trickery and excellent ball control. At a time when we have Son out, Solomon yet to return and if Richy picks up a knock no experienced cover then this deal is all win, win for us.

Medium term Werner has six months to prove his worth, and Ange has time to shape his game for us. Werner has PL and European, International experience and adds competition for places.

With the possibility of European football next season, we can add quality to our depth at a reasonable cost, and still look to strengthen in other areas of the team come Summer.

Someone convince me that this signing has no upside?
Exactly, if he hits the ground running we'll have benefited and have a player we can sign next summer for relative peanuts. If not, he goes back to RBL having provided some short-term cover.

He's a more intelligent player and better/more comfortable on the ball than both Richy and Johnson.

He's five years older and more experienced in the PL, Europe and Internationally than Johnson, but i don't disagree compared to Richy.

Shrewd bit of business, can hit the ground running and as you say minimum financial damage if it just doesn't work out for either party.

End of the day Ange has looked at Werner, see's the upside and has a player that should slot into his system, high press and cover across the front three positions.

Adds depth to all three of them with options to cover injury's (God forbid) and suspensions.

Adds competition and experience to a young side.

A really good clever signing, we know the fella can fit our system, Ange would have known this, just hope he brings his 2018 shooting boots with him, better than some of our previous loan signings as striking options.

Looking at his stats on transfermarket makes interesting reading. Used a lot more as a centre forward when playing in Germany back in 19/20. Then when he came to Chelsea utilised a lot more on the left wing or as a second striker by Fat Frank.

His record noticeably worse at Chelsea as he wasn't properly utilised. I think his speed is definitely something we can use to get in behind defences, and with Kulu, Brennan, Son and Madders assisting he will be dangerous.

Injury record also looks ok. Nothing major or no great big swathe of games missed in the last couple of seasons.

His record at Chelsea was worse because he missed a lot of chances. He was always getting into good positions but just kept missing. You could see his confidence was shattered by the end.
I still think this is a good move though. He'll love the way we play and our team spirit and he won't have a massive price tag hanging over him.

I've not made the comparison as a competition, just pointing out that it should be taken into account for the naysayers, he's still levels above Johnson on the ball, regardless of age, it should improve us.

His 2019/2020 season was his best! Chelsea naffed him up in 20/21. Here's to 2024! 💪😎

According to information from Sky UK, it is Tottenham Hotspur who are very interested in signing the 27-year-old on loan until the end of the season. Kicker confirms the report.

Werner, on the other hand, who was under contract with Tottenham's city rivals Chelsea FC from 2020 to 2022, wants to play regularly in order to protect his chances of getting a place in the German national team for the European Championships next summer. "It's true that Timo is looking for a loan," said coach Marco Rose, "Timo wants match practice, which I can't guarantee him at the moment. He would like to go to the European Championships, and in the end this is a situation that might help us too. If he then comes back in a top condition again."

Some of these goals are outrageous

Even if he can get back to 50% of the player he was, he will still be more clinical than Richarlison.

Massive confidence player - if he hits the ground running and scores early I think it’ll be a great coup. I love having blistering pace up top and this guy is rapid

I still prefer not to have someone who played for Chelsea, just the way I feel 😩
Just in the premiership era, gallas was good, cudicini was solid. Even gudjohnsen wasn't a total flop. There's probably more I'm missing but just off the top of my head
