My son and I were discussing before the game last night that it would be difficult to justify dropping him for van de Ven but you would wouldn’t you - Ben has been superb though

You can't just casually mention your son without also telling us his age mate.

Ben is such a nice guy his hamstrings lasted exactly as long was needed for VDV to be back, to save Ange having to make a tough decision.

It's still a blow, a great bench option to see out games and ease Mickey back in. Hopefully its a minor strain.

Strange how 3 central defenders have done their hamstrings. Having to run back a lot more than normal.
Apparently some of his other teams were the same in the first season,

It's a totally different type of conditioning to what we were doing so no surprise there. This is one of the problems with changing football philosophy. I wonder if the issue would have been so bad if we got Ange after Poch.

In what way is it different. I know they seem to run a lot more but they have always been runnimg in some form or another. Could he not have learnt from his previous teams problems and adapted the training somewhat .

A couple of ways. They are running back to recover over longs distances and they're having to consistently turn. It's just different conditioning to sitting back and pressing out short distances.

Our style of play demands a lot from the players. This will keep happening imo.
And we're lucky we don't have midweek european games, or this would be a lot worse
It’s weird that Ange’s CB’s at previous clubs didn’t really have this hamstring issue, PL more intense and fast paced and end to end I suppose.

Different because far more longer explosive sprints than under Conte and more pressing so more fast short bursts.

Needs completely different conditioning and muscles won’t be used to it. Hopefully once they have one injury mosts bodies will adapt to the new workload.
