A backline of the below would be an outstanding upgrade to the shambles of our backline the past few seasons.

Vacario
Forster

Porro Romero Van Der Ven Udogie
Royal Dragusin Kelly Davies

Then of course, Sanchez, Dier, Spence, Regulion and Philips all either gone or on loan. Wonder what happens to Sessegnon?

I think Sessegnon will get the rest of the season to impress. I know he was deployed as a LW when he came on, but I could see Ange gradually integrating him at LB, but may just be protecting him from all the sprints as he gets his fitness back up.

What that'll also give us is complete flexibility....

Dragusin/Emerson CB and RB, Kelly/Davies CB and LB, that's 4 backups of good quality and multiple positions. Only Davies is a worry age wise as well, so theoretically it could be our defensive line up for 5 years+

They are needs must atm not ready without consistent football at a good level. Phillips needs the loan and Dorrington needs to play men's football week in and week out, It's easier for ange to put in a young attacker than a defender in his mind with the high intensity we play needs 100 % percent full concentration playing in that high line and its not about pace but reading the game before others do to gain that yard. udogie is the exception with his raw talent.
It isn't just Ange though. I can't think you to many 18 year old centre backs that have played in the premier league recently. Colwell played for Brighton last season and he would have been 19 but other then him I can't think of any other teenagers to play. If they are 18 playing in defence they usually play as a full back.

Bournemouth need another LB option I believe as Kerkez is injured and they have been playing Outtara out of position (as Kelly was also injured).

I wonder if a creative deal could be on the cards? Perhaps offer them Reguilon in a swap deal or £10m plus Reguilon on loan until the summer?

Iraola may go for it as he knows La Liga well and will be aware that Reguilon was a good talent in La Liga at least. He may feel he can get something out of him. If we do want Kelly perhaps that could be something we try?
Why would we spend 10m on Kelly with only 6 months left on his contract. That would be madness imo.

ROLFCOPTER if you think he will be fit for more than 2 consecutive games.

For me, Sessegnon is too weak on the ball to play as an inverted FB. Does not have the ability to withstand pressure, the vision/ body positioning to turn in the midfield. Passing isn’t great.

When he’s been at his best, his skills have been arriving in the box and composure to finish (admittedly we have not seen this at spurs), which are better suited to a LWF in our system.

HG and PL tax unfortunately. I really doubt Bournemouth would let him go for much less.

Dier went for £3.4m and he’s a 29 year old with no long term value, doesn’t count as HG and can’t get a game.

Kelly is 25 years old, counts as HG and is a first team regular with Bournemouth. I don’t think they will sell him for much less than suggested? They may think they’re better off keeping him to help them finish their season well, then losing him on a free in the summer.

Unless they really need the money anyway.

I'd take him for 10mil, that's the back four sorted.

Romero, van de Ven, Dragusin, Kelly looks like a great Unit. 21-25 age range, 2 left footers, 2 right footers, different strengths but no significant drop off in terms of overall quality when plugging different ones in. If we can pay sub 10m to sort that now and hopefully forget about the position for the next few years then it feels like a no brainer

His value to us is not affected by the fact that his contract has 6 months left. It affects his price but that’s not the same thing. He’s a 25 year old HG centre back who can cover left back, and we either think he’s worth £10m to bring on board or we don’t. If he had 2.5 years left would you be happy to have him for £10m?

I mean we got about 33% of that fee for Dier in the same circumstances, and he’s old and not HG for whatever the Bundesliga equivalent might be. Not crazy to put that price on him (ie. 10m on Kelly).

That’s true in isolation but not when you consider the larger picture of squad building as a whole. Is it better to have Kelly now, or to have Kelly in June and an extra £10m to play with? You could argue it either way; same goes for Bournemouth.

Not HG in the PL either, so was taking up a valuable non HG spot.

£10m for Kelly is a great deal IMO.

Sorry if I'm being dense folks, but have I missed the £10m bit? Or was that just a "why don't we offer them £10m" piece of chat?

Agreed, but to be fair I didn’t say he is or isn’t worth it. I said his value to us isn’t impacted by his contract status. If we wait until the summer he might go somewhere else, or we might have injuries at CB. I’d be happy to get him for £10m now, think our defence would be set for a few years

We would have to be very unlucky - again - on the injury front, and very lucky to get past City in the cup if we were to really need Kelly this season - so can't we just arrange a pre-contract if he is keen to join?
