I'm not a scout mate. You don't need a player who can cover all those positions - we would need cover for right back. Dragusin can cover on the left, as can VDV. So a right sided defender who is versatile enough to play RB/WB and RCB should do it. We managed to buy Bentancur for £15 million for god's sake - there is great value in the market right now and I'm certain we could get a better player than Emerson for £30 million+

Great squad player, and I would keep him, even for next summer. But he would not be a reliable FB - even as an inverted FB, who still has to cover wingers.

30 isn’t old in football years at all - Is Harry Kane old? People just think Davies is older than he is. Add in the fact that he hasn’t got that many miles on the clock as he’s not been a regular starter for big chunks of his career and I think he’s got years left. I don’t see him as having lost a step either, and although he’s not a natural inverted full back not many are and he’s another who like royal follows instructions well.

Probably worth moving on in the long run as he does have technical deficiencies, but no point leaving ourselves short now when there is still plenty for us to play for this season.

I'm not advocating us selling him by the way, I'm just suggesting that if we are offered £30million + we should definitely consider it. It would be crazy not to. I like Emerson but he is not a £30 million player in today's market, at least not in Europe.

How people can complain having Emerson as a backup RB, I simply don’t know how anyone can say he is a bad back up.

KWP has been mooted as a replacement. He’s a fan, he’s come through the academy (boosts our HG and club trained quota as a bonus) has a great attitude (never complained about being overlooked at Spurs and hasn’t agitated for a move at Saints despite breaking into the England setup and being far too good for the Championship), 18 months left on his contract so would probably only cost 12-15m in the summer. He has played regularly at both RB/LB and in midfield for Southampton. This detailed write up in the Athletic suggests he’d be a great fit as an inverted FB in our system:

That’s just one suggestion, but luckily we have an excellent recruitment team who will be better placed to compile a list of suitable targets than anyone on this forum. I rate Royal for the same reasons that you do, but let’s not kid ourselves that he’ll be impossible to replace.

The thing is you don't know if the person posting wants to be corrected publicly. Perhaps English is their second or third language or they have dyslexia or struggled at school for whatever reason and you pointing out their mistake is humiliating? Anyhow, just my tuppence worth 👍🏼

I really like Emerson and feel his role is underrated. 70 million and loan back until June would turn my head though 😁

He's a great squad member and plus, I really like the bloke. I'd hate to see him shipped off to that shithole of a league.

I don't know whether or not he's part of our long term plans. Certainly a decent backup but does he fit our style of play? Can we do better?

It's like Hojbjerg. A reliable rotation option but ultimately not suited to how we want to play.

I would argue that in an ideal world we should be looking for better quality full back rotation come the summer. That's for both flanks.

He was getting into some great offensive positions when Conte played him at RWB. One of very few pluses during that time imo.

Worth asking why a Saudi club has alighted on Emerson as a potential target? There are surely better players out there in his position and I doubt they'll be looking at him to cover half a dozen positions so are they looking at him as someone they think might become surplus or has his agent concluded that and so is it him driving this?

They're just looking to snaffle up any old player who's half recognizable imo to legitimize their poxy league. The cat's out of the bag though with plenty of players already desperately trying to get out.
