I mean, we shouldn’t guarantee anyone game time.
Exactly. This lad might turn out to be decent but no chance you should be able to walk into a prem team as a guaranteed starter at 18 after playing in a league at the same level as league one.

We paid 25M for Dragusin, and he's proven at a much higher level, 30M for an 18-year-old from the Belgian league is a risk. I thought we would take the risk in the 20s but in the 30s comes across as a hard sell.

Well hopefully the new scouting system is bang on the money.

Because historically they haven't been.

Gil for starters. Arrived no where near PL ready.

Opted out with Scott, Olise amongst others.

They hit ground running.

There's no exact science to it I guess. But I'm gonna put my tiny little bollocks on the line her and say he'll become a worldly that we'll all be gutted we've missed out on.

Anyways COYS.

Let's give Brentford an absolute dicking...

Don't mind that at all, we're being decisive and certain in our strategy again.
Shame to miss out but there are others out there and it's good to see that we won't have our pants pulled down, especially if we were unsure.

This seemed like an opportunistic one, so I don't really expect us to switch to another target this late in the window.

Clearly a smart kid with good advisers in his corner, fair play to him Brentford is a really clever move.

As for us, clearly seems we never went in 100%, but the fact he was a target proves once again how positive our scouting is at the moment. On to the next exciting option they dig up!

That seems to be an odd statement - particularly singling out Bryan - when you could have mentioned Sarr, or Udogie, or Romero, or Kulusevksi, or Bentancur, or Van de Ven, or Vicario, or Porro...

Obviously I wanted Nusa because he’s a huge talent but just as important to me was the fact we were finally getting a wide player of the perfect type.

That is where my frustration lies even more so than missing out on the individual. I just pray we have alternatives lined up who also fit the profile perfectly (so not Rowe etc).

It feels like we are cursed not to sign a quality wide player. We haven’t had one since Bale and Lennon (Son is more of an inside forward and whilst perfect doesn’t really suit the wide player role in this team now. He’s also going to be 32).

Spurs so often come up short by 1/2 players and I really think the attack is the clear area letting down the squad at the moment. I just pray we have some quality names lined up like Nico Williams, Savio etc for LW, or Bakayoko, Neto, Olise etc for RW.

I am 100% convinced getting the wide positions correct will unlock another level for our team and without getting it right we will hit a ceiling we can’t get past.

I think it's crazy for any club to guarantee playing time to any player no matter who they are and what their potential is. If that's what happened here, and that's what's swayed it in Brentfords direction then that is a hell of a risk in such a young player.

Going to a smaller club for playing time is often the right decision but there are some cautionary tales, e.g. Gnonto at Leeds.

Looked really impressive for his age at the start and then fell out of favour. Tried everything he could to get a summer move away from the Championship and now he's started one league game since October. There has been injuries and attitude issues in his case, but still something to have in mind.

Brentford often playing a defensive 3-5-2 formation raises a few questions marks for me.

When you're a mid-table club you can do that. Realistically Brentford aren't expected to do anything but survive in the division.

I think we will be looking for a wide player - but not now. So, I don't see us walking away as a sign we don't want a wide player - just that we have limits on what we want to spend - after already bringing in a CB and forward (albeit on loan).

Summer windows are historically when most business is done anyway.

Moving on from this then, I see Jonathan Rowe isn’t in the squad for Norwich today but haven’t seen as to why he’s not involved.

I think Rowe is the better option tbh, was hoping he would be the one we go for. Let’s see what happens.

I think this is more of a verbal thing and not something they will follow up on, i think ut is more that Brentford he has a much higher chance to start. i have not heard of any club giving these assurances, maybe to some older stars, but immagine the other people on the training ground and the toxic atmosphere something like that would cause, you know if you play in the same position, that you will never get picked due to a clause? no way PL clubs act like this on some "maybe" talent.

When Ange talks about our forward play needing some work, I'd be amazed if it's not a diplomatic way of saying we need better, more suitable players to improve that forward line, along with him genuinely meaning it needs to improve with our current crop.
I'm confident that targeting Nusa means the club are on the ball here, the intent was at least showing some planning ahead.

So many reasonable posts, trying to see this transfers from several perspectives. So few meltdowns. It feels like only two weeks ago, people wanted to hang Levy for Bayern putting in a bid for Dragusin.

Could it be... no. Have we really... I don't believe it. Have Spurs Community matured and grown up?
