There is no doubt about that. Sticking point is his €50 mil release clause would need to be paid in one go which we won’t do. If he continues to play as well as he has this season he will be at the top of a lot of clubs lists.

Realistically though, how many clubs in world football can pay, or would be willing to pay 50m euro in one go.

Well, if what Ange wants is a player who is 1st-team ready, and there are serious doubts as to whether Nusa fits the bill, it seems quite logical not to get involved in an auction and pay over the odds to inhibit our ability to buy the player Ange really wants.

So while we may be disappointed, it’s seems perfectly sensible to me.

Otherwise we’d have been relying on a young player to do a job he’s not yet ready to do, which would help no one.
But a Nusa style player that is 1st team ready, will not be in our price range cause those kind of players are a dime a dozen and would quickly be world class.

That seems to be an odd statement - particularly singling out Bryan - when you could have mentioned Sarr, or Udogie, or Romero, or Kulusevksi, or Bentancur, or Van de Ven, or Vicario, or Porro...
I'm talking pre Paratici.

I'm in no way dismissing our good work over the last 2-3 years.

I'm just intrigued as to whom we'll be targeting for this role. Because we're not going to spend big bucks on the likes of Mitoma or a Nico Williams. The finished articles.

So we're either looking at potential or unearthing a player that is currently undervalued.

I’m not buying into going to Brentford for playing time. Seems a line spun by his camp.

Why would you not choose to play for Spurs over Brentford? Ones competing to get back into the CL or could be in it next season, playing, exciting attacking football, playing to your strengths. The other could well be dragged into a relegation scrap if, hardly a chance to showcase your talents?

Surely as a pro you would back yourself to get into this attacking line up? Look how Johnson has had an opportunity and is being played through his bad spell, granted down to lack of alternatives, but we always seem to be short / have injuries every season. There’s also a clear long term pathway to replace Son.

I think POK is right, we were interested, just not interested enough to get into a bidding war.

Nico Williams should really be our default number 1 target going forward from this
The problem is that he is arguably the best young player out there in the left wing position that is not already in a CL level team.

We don't have any history of being able to get that level of player to sign for us.

We regularly have to catch them when they are younger, which is why missing out on Nusa is a blow IMO.

My one main concern would be I'm not convinced a lot of teenagers are going to suit us. I think they need to build a little bit before they come in. The intensity that we play just doesn't suit their development yet. I think for Nusa we would keep him on loan now but possibly would benefit loaning to a more intense league for another season. I look at the injuries Pedri has this season after playing so much last season. Sarr is only a first team regular this season at 21. Bobb is just starting now at 20. So while it would be great for the future it's probably not one who will be much involved if at all until season after next.

We've had talk of whether some of the academy players should have played more but I really do think its a big risk pre 20 years old. So many injuries this season as the players adapt to the aggressive pressing under Ange. It might not be the best move from such a small league to this level in this league.

Thing which I find most interesting is that, ignoring what ever the club line is now, it seems we spent a good amount of time scouting him and negotiating for him. I mean there was even a story of Paratici being in Brugge a while back. Whatever it was I’m just very curious to know what exactly it was that changed, unless it is as basic as Brentford offering a better deal then us to both club and player.

Not too worried IF we put another £25m towards a player ready to make an instant contribution to our first team squad now instead. If he does well for Brentford in the Premier League, then I’m sure we’d happily pay double what they paid for him.

Let Brentford take a £25m risk, no problem. I didn’t realise until today that he’s not a certain starter for FC Club Brugge! The way some people have been talking him up I‘d have expected him to be THE young player in the Belgian League right now!

Very true, although for a club our size and where we are with ffp i feel like a 50mil euros clause should be doable.

Am I right in thinking we paid 45mil euros for Porro's release clause?

Obviously Williams will be in very high demand but I cant think of too many better clubs positioned to be in need of a marquee left winger, in addition to the trajectory we seem to be on.

He takes this forward line to another level.

All it takes is one tho. At this point the very best clubs in the world are watching him so Bilbao don’t need to lower their demands. All it takes is a PSG, Chelsea, RM to trigger it and if he continues to play as well as he has then that will happen.

True, but if they make him aware of their interest he might just reject us anyway and then the release clause is meaningless.
Depends on where we put our priorities currently.

Hope it's still a possibility for us as I really like the agility, acceleration and ability to go both ways ( :cautious: ) at pace.

Would really love to see what a player like that could do in an Ange side.
