Thanks for the ITK.

Which ever way we want to spin it, we're being out bid by Brentford and Brighton to a key target.

Our approach now is to gain interest from the targeted player, and use that buy in to try to dictate terms.

The problem is the market is too competitive and dynamic to ever have that control.

This approach very nearly cost us the Dragusin deal.

Plenty to be positive about our club at the moment, but without Paratici leading negotiations my fear is we're going back to the bad habits of Dear Leader.

- Summer deadline day pulling plugs on CBs.
- Sanchez sale after deadline without replacement.
- Dragging our feet to the squeeze the pips this window, and being gazumped by Brentford.

I'm not convinced any of that happens with Paratici steering the ship, and I think Nusa would probably be our player.

the ones we would want will be out of reach not just on price but competition. That’s why this strategy is key with our current standing . Ideally a Williams or Neto would be lovely but unless we get a clear run they will have better suitors right now it’s just the nature of the beast . We do like the look of ibrahim osman but nothing concrete on that yet.

But surely, given what you've said (plus Son, Kane situation etc), then the pathway at Spurs should be very appealing to someone like Nusa in his position?

Seems almost a gimme with that in mind? Sorry, might be missing something in the wording.

Only really going on what others say about his ability and remember people being similarly gutted about Damsgaard and others who haven't done much, so, I just never quite know.

Not close enough to it these days and there seem to be a billion and one next big things in wing forward positions at the mo... 🙏

P.s. Also remember us and others not pushing on with Kudos interest because of the need for a release clause, so maybe something similar in action here? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Bruges did what is best for them, as we do. Can't complain. If we really wanted him we'd have upped the offer a little. I'm not going to lose my shit over it every now and then. You can't just overpay. That's an awful habit to get into, one which other clubs will quickly become aware of, and would be suicidal for us longer-term.

That said, this being a stickler and missing out on appropriate talent on sheer principle can't be the long-term strategy either. The days of claiming poverty are long gone.

It's a tricky balance to reach but if we pick our battles carefully we should be alright.

If Ange was prepared to lose the player for the sake of having him 'now', then I suspect we could see late activity in the window for another player. If not, then we may as well have just waited until the summer for Nusa.

Bummer to hear. Who knows and sounds like Brugge played a blinder but sounds like we overplayed our hand and should have just tied the deal up for next summer. Obviously price was going to go up for getting him now.

For a guy with this level of potential there will always be other suitors and projects and if you have a chance to tie up at a price you can live with you have to strike.

Hopefully not one we rue too much. We’re going to have to spend some real $ in attack and I hope we’re ready to do so this summer. It’s a massive gulf between what we have vs City / Liverpool and even the likes of Arsenal / Villa once Son is done in a year or so.

we got a lot of the Kane money up front, right? That’s tailor made for actually hitting Williams’ release clause.

while it's a bummer to lose out on nusa, we shouldn't overpay too much for him. Even city walk away from deals cause the asking price is too much.
While the pitchforks are out by the twitter mob, we shouldn't go too hard on the club atm. Nusa is a talent.. but not a bonafied starter/star yet

Annoying..... as I do believe we'll look back at this moment in a few years time and really regret not getting this one over the line.

But at the same time it does sound like we have acted reasonably and its just a bit unfortunate that its concluded the way it has.
I am certain that our behavior in negotiations (mostly driven by Levy) has caused us to miss out on many players but I wont hang this one on Levy.

Let's hope results are good in coming games, the negativity is spreading in the fan base again.

Where from?
If you are a fan and don't visit here I'm not sure they would be as invested about missing out.
I'm a fan and not negative due to this falling through.

However don't quote me in years to come if he achievs Ronaldo status!

What negativity? A few people act disappointed over missing out on a promising player. In general our recent business since Kulu and Benta has been great. Gil and Johnson are good players, and we've yet to see the best of them, because of competition from Son, Perisic, Solomon, Kulu and Timo on the flanks. Neither of them might make the grade because of lack of minutes. Right now we need a striker to replace Son who probably wont be around for much longer, that's more important than a LW who wants minutes now. Shame we didn't get him, but if people are going to start crying crocodile tears they need to see the big picture. I keep reading about us not giving youth a chance, we've got one of the youngest sides in the league.

Remember that kid from Barcelona.... we missed out on him and he went to RB Leipzig or something like that.... people were GUTTED....well look how that turned out.

if we wanted him really really wanted him we would have paid what Brentford is willing too and convinced him and his family we the best place for the next step in his career.

Other opportunities or more polished signings will come our way for the quoted prices. Sarr, Udogie VDV etc who are progressing in our team.

It is unfortunate we have supposedly pulled out of negotiations but if we didn't want to overpay, and if the player is now happy with moving to brentford, so be it.

We may regret it, but that is the case with all transfers, successful and not successful.

Risk vs reward taken into account and apparently it wasn't worth it for us.

Lots of assumptions here, buddy. I know Dear Leader is to blame for all ills and sins, but not sure anyone is to blame here. This decision was down to the player by the sounds of it. Hard to go full ‘burn baldy to the ground’ over this. But, I respect how you feel.

If anyone is actually annoyed with Brugges over this just talk to any club that has tried to buy our best players over the years.
Fair play to them getting the best deal possible and the deal they wanted all along i.e. keep him until the summer.

And also per WLB we were the ones who fucked the deal that was agreed by trying to change it by getting him to join now and not summer as planned.

With a lot of clubs having PSR / FFP issues this was a huge window to try and steal a march on rivals but looks like we haven't been able to take advantage of that. We'll know in 2 years time whether this was a massive error or plain good luck but does have remnants of years gone by where we had a chance to strengthen but wouldn't take the risk and we've seen how that has worked out for us before.

Can't lie it's disappointing and fairly frustrating but not much we can do other than wait and see if we get anyone in this window. If we don't then that will be very disappointing as that's the reason we gave other clubs the chance to gazump us on this deal.

Ultimately we have to listen to what Ange wants... and if that wasn't possible to do with Nusa/Club Brugge, then it's just the way it is... we move on... and we keep up the good work under Ange and the new setup.

Thanks for the ITK WLB 👍👍

So if the deal fell through purely because Ange required the signing in now - it means that we will definitely be signing an attacker that can affect the first team squad in the next couple of days..?

Totally agree with this.

We held the line on Orban - rightly. We didn’t on Johnson. Let’s hope he comes good.

Trust the transfer team. I reckon theyre pretty sensible. Fingers frossed

So it sounds like we had the deal then Ange Postecoglu changed it after it was all agreed because he wanted him now and has ended up with no one now and no one in the summer either.

Williams or Neto would be fantastic, all tho Neto does have injury issues. Still they are certainly of the right calibre. Also read Wolves might have some financial issues brewing. Still like you say I don’t see ether happening this window. Especially Nico. Was wondering if we would be interested in Osman, looks like West Ham are really trying to get him but are struggling to agree a fee. Seems they want around £20 mil for him.

Why would he be out of our reach financially in a few years. The latest standings on the richest clubs had us 7/8th. So only those clubs above us can afford him? Arsenal dropped 100m on one player, if we get CL football there is no reason why we can't do a deal of that size

Because it’s not how we operate. Financially yes of course we could hypothetically afford players in the upper bracket but it’s not our MO. Just because we have the money to buy high value players doesn’t mean they still can’t be out of reach for other reasons.
