I think he is still way off matching what Pochettino was doing. Poch teams played high line football but were still much adept at grafting and winning the dog fights. This was evident by how much we win during the Christmas period owing to our superior physical conditioning and graft. Currently I feel as if Ange team cannot match high intensity coming their way
His first season is currently better than the one Poch had though. For a fair comparison you have to compare their first season. I think his football has shown quicker than it took under Poch

In our best season under Poch, at pretty much the same time of year (31st Jan) we drew 0-0 with with bottom place Sunderland and from the second half of Jan to mid Feb, we only won 1 of the 4 games in that period.

We also had times we struggled during the season, even at our best.

27 goals conceded in 14 games. We definitely need to improve on that more than anything from now until the end of the season.

For a team that dominates the ball as much as we do, we are far too sloppy at times and concede avoidable goals.

Defensively from corners and attacking free kicks we look poor too. And although s fantastic shot stopper, Vic needs to improve this area or Ange needs to come up with a solution.

Still, we didn't lose, last few seasons we would have.
10 of those goals came in 4 games we had no CBs and another 4 in a game we played with 9 men

Still work in progress.

The problem some fans have is they act like everything is has been turned around, it hasn't been. Still conceding late like we did at Wolves and today. Killing off teams isn't there yet, should have been miles away from Brentford by min 70 yet we let them back in the game and have a nervy end. Also, we still evidently lack strength in depth to cover for the AFCON/Asia Cup absentees.

The talk of the title was, with all due respect, very silly. We finished 8th last season, our worst for 14 years and need to take one step at time. We get CL football, great but if we don't, we still need to stick to the project and challenge better for trophies next season.

We need to stay in the present always. At the moment that is focusing on the little wins, for example, we're playing the way we want to.

Yep.

Romero has missed 7 games, Bissouma has missed 8 games & Van de Ven has missed 10 games.

Arsenal have had Saliba, Gabriel and Rice available for every single matchday this season and we are 2 points behind.

Throwing Dragusin on for the last few minutes hasn’t worked in either game so far for me. Just seems to disrupt us as much as the opposition.

Smacks of promised minutes and keeping the player happy, Emerson Royal on and pushing Porro on is a much better option

I've seen a lot of comments on the subs coming on but not on who they replaced.

- Johnson. Started bright but pretty ineffective by the time he was taken off.
- Bentancur has been off the boil a bit and is finding it difficult in games where the physicality/intensity is super high.
- Some weren't expecting Maddison to play more than probably 60 mins given the midweek match and the long injury absence.
- Werner twisted his ankle on that chance from BJ and was struggling from that point after.
- Hojbjerg gave the ball away carelessly at around ~86 min and we've seen him do that before. He looked on his last legs about minute 70.

During the match those seemed logical subs to me. There aren't that many options on the bench so you make do with what you have. At that point of the match Everton had nothing, Vicario was commanding on everything into the box and Dragusin did well by physically outmuscling Beto on a few occasions. A needless foul by Kulusevski, an unfortunate header by Romero is what's creating the hysteria. Everton had offered little of anything up until, and including the their goal.

It's not like we created anything of note between the Sarr/Deki subs and their goal. Key players are lacking sharpness from long-term injuries/form and others are out with injury/int'l duty.

I agree the 3atb system (as a whole unit) hasn't been worked on enough but I didn't see it as giving Dragusin mins for the sake of it. He was simply trying to see out the match with minutes left.

A silly free-kick given away and here we are.

There are a few things we have to work on including remaining calm when the match becomes frantic. That's as much player maturity than anything else. We defended leads well in the first 10 matches and we can do it again but we need to get back to keeping calm and playing. I genuinely don't think our players are physically incapable of matching intensity but mentally there's still some work to do. I'm sure Ange is aware of it.

Not great but it's not terrible. Many players are just getting match fit again, it takes some time to get up to speed. We didn't concede much besides the set pieces. Things will get better, no need to stress out.

Yea peak Poch especially in the final WHL season we were absolutely unstoppable. Dembele & Wanyama along with Toby, Jan, Dier and the physicality of Walker & Rose meant we were so so solid and then Eriksen, Dele, Lamela, Son & Kane did the damage.

Our current team isn’t at that level yet, we are still building but we aren’t dominating games as often as we’d like but it’s only 6months in, peak Poch was 2.5-3yrs in.

We are well on our way, just need to add another ideally 4-5 this summer and we will next season imo be not far off peak Poch with the right 4-5 signings this summer.

4th CB
1-2x CM
1x RW of top quality
Sign Werner on a perm

Then we will have a squad of 22 where the quality never drops like it can at the moment with the likes of PEH, Skipp, Gil etc.

Jury is still out for me whether we should sign Werner on a permanent.

We give the opposition 3-4 great chances every game and that’s with Romero and VdV playing. We are on an average conceding near 2 goals per game, and is not sustainable playing the way we play and expect for us to be scoring 2-3 goals every game to win

Some of the Romero and Bissouma ones are self inflicted though

I think we should only make an assessment at the end of the season. My only issue is that he’s similar to Johnson and I’m not sure if we need two players with such a similar skill set. That being said he is still adapting to the system and I still think he’s being under utilised. We won’t know until the end of the season if he is worth taking imo.

The midfield isn't firing on all cylinders - personnel, injury/fatigue etc - and it makes everything that bit worse. True of any football team of course but in this system especially so.

Once it gets settled again, I think we'll see a bit more of the early season controling possession helping us to see games out again.
