There’s a weird thing on this forum where a number of posters don’t seem to be able to spell this guys name?! It’s really irritating at times.

After “Erikkson” I thought we were due a break for a bit but lately there’s been a real rise in ‘Soloman’ and one particular case of ‘Solomun’ .

Where’s that ‘grinds my gears’ thread…

Maybe it would help these people if the thread title included his full name…

I’m not gonna pretend Manor is an elite player, but he’s the only attacking 1v1 profile in the squad. I really think Son up top is when we’re at our best, and if we’re faced with having to take the initiative in games, have a huge chunk of possession, and control the game in the attacking third, I think Solomon is a more ideal profile out wide than Werner, Johnson, and Richarlison. Currently against a settled block there’s not enough incision from out wide to destabilize teams. And personally I feel the up-and-down transitional games won’t produce consistent enough results, so I think we should be aiming to gain control and sustain attacking third pressure as much as possible. I get this will be solved in time with more time under the manager and new players, but for now I think Solomon would help best produce the kind of football I think we should be aiming for in the future. Obviously need him fit first and again player(s) of similar profile but better quality should arrive in the summer hopefully, but I think he’d help a lot.

Spot on.

We missed not having a player like him today against a low block.

We need more of this profile this summer.

In addition to a tricky winger we also need an out and out striker who’s good with both his feet and head. I know Haaland missed a shed load of chances tonight but he’s a hell of a presence and and more often than not puts the ball away. Whereas we’ve zero presence in the box. Son has little to no aerial presence. Richarlison can head the ball but he’s an average player all round. Albeit not his biggest fan we miss having a Llorente type for when our only option is to try crossing the ball to beat a low block

I think Veliz could be ideal for that role from next season

If he can't be relied upon to stay fit then ultimately it's irrelevant what his skillset is.

This knee injury between us and Fulham last season has seen him miss 37 matches - I don't see him being a reliable contributor for us and as such i'd be inclined to free up that non-HG spot to another.

I wonder when we will actually see him again. Ange said he was having another procedure on his knee and would be out for another 2-3 weeks so patently he might be back in training by our next game but I imagine it could still be a while before he is actually available.

Lad’s been here six months. Seems overly harsh to write him off already.

He has missed a lot of games with knee injuries over the last two seasons. There is a chance he will never reach his potential

Best thing for him might be to simply come back with no expectations and he can build strength and fitness this season and the team can reassess over the summer.
