as bad as the weird cult-like fans who are bitter with someone who left Tottenham not on their terms?
I think you mistake bitterness with enjoyment of a bit of comeuppance.

Harry and Charlie made a bad decision and I am happy to see them figure that out in real time.

I don't think they have made a bad decision. I think Bayern have a much better chance of winning a trophy before we do.

When you feel the need to go to a club that won 23 trophies in the last 10 years just to validate yourself - it’s a bad decision. Your insecurities run deep when you make that kind of decision.

He left because he thinks 1 single trophy, whatever it is, validates him. He’s thrown away the PL scoring record & the chance to be seen as a Shearer level icon. Doing what he did twice to leave is going to leave a sour taste in people’s mouths, no matter how you slice it. He might have eventually won a trophy here or he might not have. But he’s lost the status symbol he would have had forever in search of a hot fix to vindicate himself to edgelord2020 & artetalover69 on twitter that people would just forget about 2 years later. I don’t care about Kane anymore whatsoever. But I do find it hilarious that he left a shit show that was showing signs of stabilizing itself for a club that was showing clear signs of becoming the shit show it has become.

There's a certain irony in Kane going to Bayern Munich the same year as they (probably) draw a blank. But it's no more than that.

People say it's 'funny', which I don't understand, I mean, I couldn't care less if he wins things or not and I don't hold any grudges, but whatever floats your boat I suppose. Personally I think he wanted away for several reasons, winning being one of them, winning being the most projected as well. We're all guessing. But overall, I just think we're fixated on having a 'laugh' at his expense and it all seems a bit bitter to me.

Bitter but glorious.

I'm not even that bothered in all honesty, but if you stuck a gun to my head and made me choose between Kane leaving and winning everything in his first season or leaving and winning nothing I'd definitely choose the latter. Let's be honest it's just delaying the inevitable anyway.

I think there’s two types of people finding it funny.

There’s the people who find it funny in an ironic way. As in, there’s something very Spurs-like about Kane, the club’s talisman, joining a club where he’s almost guaranteed to win his first ever trophy, and not winning that trophy, for now at least. That’s kind of funny in the “typical Spurs” kind of way. Like even when Kane, the quintessential Spurs boy, leaves the club, he still can’t win a trophy.

Then there are the people who are finding it funny because they still resent him going there and think the move has somehow backfired.

I think the first type isn’t bitter. It’s a bit similar to how I can look back on Chelsea winning the Champions League and us missing out on qualification that season. I can see the funny side of that now in a “typical” Spurs way.

The second type is a bit bitter, but that’s just football for you I suppose.

It's the bitterness I find a bit weird and perhaps will never understand it. The guy gave this club the majority of his life from childhood, left for a decent transfer fee and became our record goalscorer all time. He earned the right to choose what he wanted to do. I hold no grudge or ill will towards him, like the everyone else that leaves. Personally, I actually want him to win something and would love to see Bayern turn around the Lazio game and go on to win the Champions League (beating Arsenal along the way).

I was happy to see Lucas Moura win something after he left us and I would be the same for Kane and Dier.

I will only actively want Bayern to win the CL if they're playing against City or Arsenal. Other than that I really don't care either way. They're just another big European club.

Them looking like they aren't winning the Bundesliga is funny not because Kane has gone there, but because it's always funny to see the dominant side taken down a peg or two. Breaking a ridiculous run of consecutive titles always has a big element of schadenfraude to it. And for me it is funny in a haha isn't it ironic kind of way that this happens in Kane's first season there.

Not even then. Need the English clubs to get as far as they can to open up that fifth spot.

I was thinking specifically in a final but of course you make a good point. The English club might have to win the final for fifth to get a CL spot.

I don’t find it funny in a bitter way, but I understand the reasons why people might feel bitter about it, even though I don’t personally feel that way, nor do I endorse it.

But like @Marty I find it funny about a huge dominant team missing out on the title and also in an ironic way.

To be honest though, I think actively wanting Kane to win the Champions League, (“love” it if he wins it) is just as “weird”, and maybe even more so, as laughing at him in a bitter way if he fails to win anything.

If we are going to imagine what Harry was thinking, I'd suggest he moved to compete for the top trophies like the Champions league and to prove himself in another league to gain furher recognition as one of the best strikers in the world. rather than thinking I'll win a trophy to validate myself.

By his own words he was always happy to stay at Spurs whilst we progressed and challenged for the top trophies, but we took a big step back, we weren't competing for the title or even qualifying for a place in Europe.

Now when it comes to moving to Bayern, I'd agree the sensible thing to do would have been to run down his contract and been given a choice of clubs to join across Europe and a huge signing on bonus too. But that would have totally screwed us over and Harry made a decision that benefitted us to the tune of £100 million to reinvest in the squad.

I'm old enough to remember the last time one of our own was in a similar situation and ended up strengthening our rivals whilst screwing us over. A decision that impacted us for years.

I'm happy for Leverkusen, I don't like Bayern as a club. It's pretty boring watching them buy up every major talent from the clubs below them. It's how United used to operate.

Still a long way to go this season but what Alonso has done with them is incredible.

If it makes you feel better - great. But Kane has been wanting to leave Spurs since 2021.

He wasn't interested in helping Spurs win a trophy, he was concerned he could not win a trophy.

If he wanted to "help" Spurs - he could have stayed last summer... and the only difference in squad would be Kane instead of Johnson. I'd like our chance to win something if that were the case. Certainly a better chance than Bayern have right now...
