This is a good point and as we improve offensively the more our opponents need to over commit defensively which reduces the burden on our defence.
Teams don't have a lot of attacking intent against Man City because they're being overwhelmed, but like the game last weekend against Liverpool, when a team has the skills to unshackle they can create against this type of system.
Completely agree.

I will add I wasn't having a pop at our back line which I think some might have thought and sprung to their defence. It's high risk with even higher reward football we are trying to play, and that will always concede chances to the opposition. It doesn't mean our CB's haven't done their job brilliantly even when the opposition do get in on goal in games.

We need to try to concede fewer goals to have a a better chance of winning the league.

Although the way things are looking, we should end this season conceding 8 or 9 fewer goals than we did last season.

It’s always worth taking into account GD too, and even now, with 11 matches to go, we’re on a +20GD. Hopefully by the end of the season that will be at +25 or more.

(That’s compared to 7 last season, 29 the season before, 23 the season before that and 14 in 19/20.)

A healthy goal difference will go some way to suggesting that what we are trying to achieve is sustainable, especially as we are not even the highest scorers in the league and are not reliant on one single player for a majority of goals.

I like the way you start with a false premise and end with a correct one. We don't need to try to concede less goals to have a better chance of winning the league, we need to win more games. You win games by scoring more than the opposition. Goal difference is much more important than goals scored or conceded, as, as you say, it shows the sustainability of winning. We can concede every game and sometimes twice and end up conceding around 45+goals a season, but if we're winning games 2-1 and 3-1 with a few 3-2, 4-2 and we sustain that, goals conceded isn't an issue.

Fair play, I should have written that conceding fewer goals would or could give us a better of chance of winning the league, all other things being equal. But I completely agree.

We're dangerously close to having a manager complete a full season. Levy must be getting twitchy.

Yeah last time that happened was the 18/19 season, right? Poch’s last full season. 5 seasons ago.

Who would have thought when we were in the Champions League final that we had just witnessed our last full season under a single manager for 5 years.

Anyone worked out what match is on there so we can speculate who’s being scouted in it? 👀

Yokohama FM, so he's probably just watching it because they're his old team.
