No, he got to the Inter level and won Serie A. Who's to say he wouldn't have gone onto have a similar legacy as Modric, if he hadn't actually died on the football pitch.

I find it amusing, almost, that this narrative about Eriksen continues to get regurgitated when he was our best presser.
It's also worth remembering that Eriksen got better at it in time under Poch so Maddison maybe needs time to improve his pressing with us

It’s worth remembering that Eriksen was consistently the player who covered the most distance in play.

Because he was so naturally athletic it appeared effortless, and because it appeared effortless he got accused of not being athletic enough!

I think we sometimes don’t appreciate how good some players are until they’re gone.

But Maddison, like the rest, needs time to learn. A lot of great players take more than a season. It’s early days yet, for most of them.

Also Eriksen often played in from the wing so maybe if comparing distance it might be more Kulusevski who covers the ground for us. Maddison was pressing well high up the pitch earlier in the season though. It's why I wonder if going 2 up top with Richarlison would be worth a try as his pressing high is so good. At least until Maddison gets back to his best. Teams are bypassing our press too often now and it's pulling too many players forward. If Maddison and Sarr press high and get caught then it leaves 1 central midfielder. No wonder Bissouma is struggling. It's vital the press is effective high up.

Eriksen was phenomenal for us and i agree his legacy would have been bigger had the unfortunate not happened.

however i don't see him having a similar legacy to Modric, that bloke is a different kettle, a top 5 all timer for me in the midfield.

Maddison has a long way to go to get anywhere near peak Eriksen levels. That guy was such a genius and a workhorse at the same time and super consistent always.

Eriksen had a switch off mode so I'm not with consistency.

Dunno where peak Mads has gone, peak Biss, peak Bents..consistency a rare thing.

There is no way around it. Madders is by quite some margin below how he played at the beginning of the season. The question is wether he's just not 100% fit at the moment, or wether he's just an inconsistent player. So, has he always had purple patches like the first 10 matches of this seaoon?

Agree his level has dropped considerably from the first quarter of the season, but then so has pretty much everyone.

Regardless of his form though, whenever I watch us I think he is playing too deep. I know he was influential all over the pitch before, but I still feel he needs to be in the number 10 role.

On the bench again for England.

Thats both games now and he was the only outfield player not to get any minutes last game, still carrying an injury?

Don't think he'll get in the squad, mainly because of southgate negative boring stupid tactics and the fact he's not versatile as many other of the attacking players, one of the very few can only play one position which means I really don't think he'll get the call-up

Nah I think he will be in. You see what he can do as per Wednesday's cameo
