An important player for us. No-brainer signing him
My previous posts on him questioned mostly if we had space for him.

Our front three options would be: Son, Richarlison, Johnson, Werner, Kulusevski and Solomon with Veliz as the young backup.

I'm starting to think Kulu might need to play deeper and Solomon might be best off having a season on loan at a club where he gets to play regularly.

So Werner seems like a no brainer but it has to come with another attacking signing as well.

I’ve been sceptical of whether we should sign him permanently, but despite how sometimes he can be frustrating, he continues to contribute & can be a good squad player next season.

thought he had a good game but good lord, he can be so tentative and passive at times. if he grew some bravery he could be even better. truth be said, at least he is now taking off his man off the dribble often. taking steps in the right direction.

I think he will/should be a plan B off the bench from next season. We need a top quality winger and then offload Gill and possibly Solomon

Think he’ll stay & Gil will be moved on
I think Gil has to move on. If we don't get an offer then frustratingly another loan it is.

If Solomon stays and we only sign Werner, then my belief is we are starting the season with a lack of quality upfront unless one of our players really steps up a level.

100% this. He used to have it too at Leipzig (1st spell)

He is a danger, he has pace, gets the ball into the box and plenty of good runs off the ball. He caused Williams all sorts of problems today.

What he needs now is the killer instinct in front of goal.

Oh, for a striker to read and get on the end of what he is serving up.
To be fair Johnson is doing it well. A couple goals now where he's made that run into the 6 yard box. Should have scored 2 but for a good save. Just one missed out on 2nd half where Werner whips it in and he was a bit on his heels. All in all they're a good combination.

One thing to note is Werner in Jan early is the type of signing we very rarely used to make under Levy and whilst I know Timo isn’t perfect, imagine where we’d right now if we hadn’t of signed him in Jan, I’m guessing between Jan and end of season having him in our squad will have been worth a good 5-6 pts.

Hope we sign him on a perm but it’s the fact we went out early in Jan and got him and Dragusin. The 2 positions we desperately needed which was refreshing, also credit Ange for this for being clear and realistic with what he needs and also assertively asking for it early in the window rather than Jose/conte with the cryptic negative bs winging and moaning at the end of the window when we’ve not signing anyone as levy won’t sanction £70mil for a 32yr old CB ETC.

It’s a funny one becuase everyone was desperate for Dragusin and Werner was a left-field surprise. Dragusin may well turn out to be the more important signing of the two, but Werner has clearly made a more important impact on this season.

We must be able to do better.

I had the impression NF were happy to let him run as he usually produces nothing at the end of his run.
Would be a strange thing for them to do given our first goal came from one.

Find it a bit odd that the player wants to be here, is playing well, the manager likes him, the team likes him and he works his bollocks off yet a lot of fans seem to think that's not enough? Yes, I'd like us to sign a real world class inside forward too, but I really like this lad, and for all his frustrations you can so clearly see what he offers.

You say that but how many goals have come from him on his side in recent weeks? Luton OG, Johnson v West Ham and Forest OG. That's just the last three games and I believe he has had more before that as well with a couple goals too. And if not for saves Johnson would have had a couple more in the past week.

Sorry but to say he usually produces NOTHING is a ridiculous statement. From minute one in the previous three games he has been our most dangerous player despite his flaws.

Are we really debating whether or not to sign him permanently? We’ve seen nothing of worth from Gil or Manor to suggest they need to stay in the squad over Timo.

5 G/A in 11 games since signing and he’ll probably get close or above 10 by the end of the season.

The textbook definition of a no brainer signing.
