Antonio Conte admits he felt scared as star striker Harry Kane missed a penalty late in Tottenham's 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in their Champions League clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday. The Spurs manager says he thinks his squad lost focus towards the end of the match and they all need to learn to keep playing until the final whistle.

3-1 down away from home and having to play the last 30+ minutes with 10 men. Frankfurt had a go and nearly scrapped a draw (with the opposition manager 'scared').
A few weeks ago a in the north London derby we were in a similar position and went more defensive to avoid conceding six or seven.
What messages are the Frankfurt and Tottenham players being sent by their managers with those two different approaches and how might that impact their mentality?

Didn't read the article but if that's what Conte said I completely agree, particularly in respect of Hasebe not getting a second yellow card and staying on the pitch. Shocking decision from the Ref that could have cost us dear.

I mean we basically dominated them, had tons of chances and then they scored off a corner after we rested a bunch of players for the weekend. It's football - that happens

Also they had absolutely nothing to lose as it's a cup competition. Them losing 5-1 to us means nothing. Us being reckless and losing 5-1 or 6-1 in the league to our arch rivals could be really damaging.

It was the same when we got trounced by Bayern. We actually put them under a fair bit of pressure in that game but everything they (especially Gnabry) hit, flew into the net. The reaction on here from some was that it was a catastrophe when in fact it was equivalent to losing 1-0, and at least we gave it a go.

IIRC we were arguably the better team in the first half of that game and were unlucky to go in at half time 2-1 down.

While I agree 7-2 wasn't reflective of the overall balance cos Bayern's finishing was insane, our team was fragile AF around that time and I think we lost our heads in the 2nd half and let the game get away from us. I can see why people were concerned - the Poch teams of a couple of years prior would've never got their pants pulled down like that.

True, but as you implied before, once you're behind there really is nothing to lose.
