I once, relatively recently too, had a Yanited fan describe him as "United's Mbappe" to me with a straight face.

This may actually be their gravest error.

Fergie never let players get too big.

If they made demands above their place, they were gone.

The dynamic worked under his rule or you are out...and it was healthy.

Since he left, they have continuously rewarded players for good form with huge salaries, even players who didnt necesarily deserve got it.

And then signings coming in with big salaries too.

They have thrown the whole balance out.

If they had any sense, they would do what Arsenal did. By hook or crook, get rid of all the high earners and start afresh.

They appeared too scared to do that so they will keep coming unstuck.
