They're suffering big time this season from the complacency they've developed over several years of winning the BL every year without actually playing all that well. It means that when Leverkusen came along this season, they didn't have a response, and is also why they struggle in CL games against good sides. They haven't had enough practice against good opposition in the last several years.
And they fired the one coach who could actually have taken them to another level again.

They should have let him mould the team

But they literally don't have the power to do that. They don't get to decide that. It's the ref's call and that's part his or her judgment.
But the ref in this case should realise that a KDB free kick from literally 20 yards in a perfect position is a bigger advantage than having the ball down the flank with the penalty area congested.

In that position I would always rather have the free kick than the advantage. The ref didn't read that well at all IMO.

I really like Ally McCoist as the co commentator, knowledgeable, entertaining and actually insightful. Unlike Sky where it now just seems to be a string of Ooooooh noises.
Genuinely just seems to really enjoy watching football aswell which really comes across in his commentary.

Compared to Gary Neville who constantly seems to look for anything negative and generally speaks in a depressing tone, Ally McCoist is very refreshing.

The rule is that the ref can blow for a free kick or play advantage. Now, maybe the ref made the wrong call then, as all refs do. But that's different from saying we should shift the decision from the ref to the players.

For me it would be perfect fine for the players to say "thanks for the advantage, but we'll take the free kick please". I genuinely don't understand why that's a problem when the ref is already indicating that he's seen that a foul has been committed.

Reminds me of the England games and international tournaments in the 90s.

The 'colour commentator' would often do their job and make you feel excited to be watching. They'd take you to the game.

Savage, McManaman and Co add nothing

He’s very good on talksport too, with a great sense of humour, and a bit of personality.
I had a boss once and one of his main interview criteria (we used to do a lot of international trips) was could I be away and spend an evening in a bar and restaurant with this person.
Mccoist would definitely pass.

Because that would be a change in the rules. What if one player stops and asks for a free kick but the others play on? What if half do and half don't? Who does the ref listen to? And how long do you wait before you let play properly continue or blow for the foul?

The whole point is the ref makes the decision because they're in control of the game. Are there any other situations where the players have any control over decisions in a football game?

One of my favorite moments as a ref happened around advantage. Player held near the bench and breaks though. I'm about to play advantage and then the coach goes "ref there's no advantage" As I blow the whistle for the foul the winger hits this fantastic cross right onto the head of their striker for a goal. I looked at the coach and shrugged. To his credit it took the blame to his players and parents that were yelling.
