A more light-hearted gripe about the Hull game

There's obviously been a lot of complaining about the game on Saturday, and personally i feel a lot of it is justified.

However, one thing that i noticed was how SLOW everything was during the game, especially in the first half, and we seemed to allow the tempo to drop to the pace that Hull wanted, who were time-wasting like ive never seen.

Now, i absolutely HATE timewasting but i dont think we've done ourselves any favours, and as more and more teams come here trying to defend, i think we have to change two things in the ground:-

1) We have to get the multi-ball system going-too many times, the ball went out in the corner for a goal kick to Hull, and Myhill merely trotted up to the ball, walked back with it and wasted about a minute per kick-if you look at La Liga, and especially in the games at the Nou Camp and the Bernabeu, they have a ball thrown onto the pitch almost as soon as it goes out, which doesnt allow the opposition to slow the game down too much. I believe that you have to state what system you want at the start of the season, and i feel that its imperative to have multi-ball brought in next year, otherwise we will have games like Hull, Stoke and Wolves every week next season.

2) Tied in with the above, and this really is a pathetic/light-hearted moan, why are the ball boys SO small??!! The one in front of the Hull fans was literally three feet tall and was struggling to get over the advertising hoarding! Personally, if we want to keep the tempo of a game up, then we should have the youth team fielding the balls that go off the pitch so we can keep the speed of the game up; i know we were given a large amount of stoppage time, but in reality, it is more damaging having the rhythm of the game stopped every two minutes as it kills the flow of the game which leads to the fans being quiet as there is nothing on the pitch to cheer about-ive never been so bored at a Spurs game as i was in the first 30 minutes on Sunday, pretty much because the ball was never on the bleeding pitch!

I reckon that implementing the above will stop teams wasting so much time against us, which will in turn keep the tempo of the game high-based on the rest of this season's games, a high tempo normally yields better results, and i think these adjustments will give us a huge advantage against teams that try and kill the contest

Blame it on the ball-boy!

Hull succeeded in their mission to slow us down, and frustrate us. Maybe getting the ball back on the pitch quicker might make a bit of difference, but I doubt it would be all that much.

Also, if we have to use the mult-ball system in every game, there will be plenty of matches where that would count against us.

I actually remember Everton leading Utd 1-0 with 10 minutes to go and they called all their ball boys in with their balls  so they only had 1 ball to play with (sure I could have worded this better) to slow the game down.

And I remember Venables starting up a lovely attack for us as Leeds manager when he caught the ball and quickly gave it to Poyet who took the throw in and Keano scored a special curling goal from the edge of the box, Leeds fans were not best pleased!

One thing I noticed the other day was how Myhill should technically have been pulled up every time he had the ball - every time he had the ball in his hands he held it way past the supposed (but seldom enforced) 6 second rule. Many times he had it for 12 seconds or so. Petty gripe, and I'm reluctant to blame excuses in a game where we should be looking at ourselves, but nevertheless just an observation.

Well it stood out the most to me when we had to change the match ball near the start of the game, presumably it wasn't fully pumped up or something, I dunno, but we threw it back to the technical area, and it seemed to take ages for someone to go and get another ball for them to use.

We could've kicked the ball boy at Myhill and he would have still saved it. The bastard.
