They used to automatically give you your stake back as a free bet and it didn't affect the odds. That was on fivefolds and higher iirc.

Yeah, the reduced odds are a bit of the bummer, but you can keep the original odds and not have the cashback option.
Personally, I think the cashback on trebles is quite a good option for us punters and certainly avoids me ripping up my (virtual) bet slip after 5 mins....
