QPR were so desperate to land Adebayor on loan that they offered to pay a staggering £75,000 salary.

A nice negative spin from Ashton there. Awesome. The monosyllabic Mail readers have bitten in the comments, too.

Rather than saying West Ham tried to get a player for free and Spurs said no, it comes across that Spurs are greedy and vindictive. And Adebayor didn't want to go to several clubs willing to actually pay for him. Says a lot about him there. He would go but not to anywhere too difficult.. sums it up, really. 100k a week for doing nothing, rather than actually have to try.

Why should Spurs give him away? West Ham should be able to pay more than half. If QPR and Palace were able to offer that, surely they should.

Sums up the players who became squad players. Ade didn't want a relegation scrap with QPR and Lennon didn't fancy Hull for the same reasons even though he would probably have played nearly every minute of every game

So many debates on here about whether we should let him go or not. As much I would like to replace him, I'm glad we didn't let West Ham have him. they are closer than people think and with the Ade new club bounce they could over take us.

I agree. The mere thought of actually paying Ade 50 grand a week to potentially score goals for the Spammers of all teams is a right nightmare and Levy was right to call it off. Poor Arry - 75k on the table and Ade didn't even fancy it. No wonder he did his knee!
Ade seems to be going nowhere fast these days, but I do, however, find some degree of comfort in having him waiting in the wings if we suddenly need him, and paying him to play for a rival club with no replacement on the cards would be a huge risk. His ridiculous wages is something we will just have to live with until we can hopefully replace him with a top class striker in the summer.

Wham really should have taken that deal.
Just a couple of million on wages would have seriously boosted their chance of finishing above us:
Adebayor is a much better player on loan and our striking options are limited.

They have shown a serious lack of ambition here. Or maybe they just don't fancy the europa league.

I'm surprised that any club are willing to pay money for him. They will never learn. I suppose the relegation teams might take the gamble that he will be trying to earn his next contract out of them and up his game.

Totally agree, apart from the bit about finding comfort in still having him. I'd sooner play Verts up front.

Definitely. The difference between league places is a few million, not to mentioned European football revenue (now their sponsor has gone pear shaped).

£50,000 per week until June would be what, 20 weeks = £1m for him on loan in wage costs. £75k per week is only £500k extra over the duration.

So West Ham preferred Carlton Cole over Adebayor for the sake of £500k. Hmm.........

It's said that Levy personally intervened. Did he not give any parameters to the negotiating team?
