Well, irrespective of what is going on in Africa, I have mixed views of the whole Adebayor situation.

I tend to agree with those in the thread who have said that we should get behind him rather than decry him as shit just because he has not been ask good as he was last year. Do I worry that he has that element about him that scum fans don't like, namely that he plays well for a contract and then turns to poo? Maybe. But I don't see the purpose in ddeciding now that this is the case. We need Adebayor. We need him tp play well desperately. If there is one obvious difference between this year and last year it's that he no longer smiles when he plays. This could be because Harry is no longer there to tell him how triffic he is, or it could be that the fans aren't behind him as much anymore.

The way I see it, if we are going to have the nerve to sing "this is the best team you've ever played for" then we need to make him believe it by bringing that smile back onto his face. That means not jumping on his back the minute he has a bad run. If AVB is not boosting his confidence then we need to as fans. An in form Adebayor adds so much more to team play than Defoe ever can.

If he under performs the rest of the season then maybe we can assess then whether or not his place in the squd is worth maintaining. But right now he is here until then and we need to support him 100% to nring that smile back to his face.

Everything about his attitude and behaviour on and off the pitch has pissed me off, since his contract negotiations in the summer. We're just next on a list of clubs that he's fucked over and I'm not expecting much from his return at all. Totally agree that he'd fit well into AVB's system and I hope that I'm wrong and that Holtby will bring the best out of him. However, some players are just 'bad eggs' and I think ol' Ade is one of them.

Looking forward to seeing him up top on his own again with Holtby buzzing around where ever. Hopefully he recaptures the form of last season, gets us into Champions League, then in the summer, we get a decent striker in.

I agree, and I put that down to Modric and rafa going. This is why in my opinion Ade hasn't been as much of a goal threat, add to the fact that he has been in and out of the team for various reasons.

I am very confident that with the addition of Holtby, Ade's fortunes and ours will change.

I do like the look of Holtby...But I wouldn't say we've been a consistently free scoring side since Berbatov left.

He was amazing at unlocking defences.

This would be an interesting game...

07/08

Robinson
Chimbonda
King
Woodgate
Ekotto
Lennon
Zokora
Huddlestone
Bale
Berbatov
Keane

12/13

Lloris
Walker
Vertonghen
Kaboul
Ekotto
Lennon
Dembele
Sandro
Bale
Holtby
Adebayor

I'd say

GK = 12/13
DF = 07/08
MF = 12/13
FW = 07/08

Sandro and Dembele would boss the middle but the defence and forwards from 07/08 are stronger.

If only we could take Berbatov and King into this side!

Adebayor had better be back for the Newcastle game. This is beyond a fucking joke IMO and my patience is wearing very thin. A full week to get back and prepare/rest for the game is ample time and the Club should be demanding it, particularly when you consider are precarious position because of injuries.

I would not be shocked if he does not play - nothing to do with not being there.

AVB could well give ADE a pass due to ANC and get back in for Lyon. Lets not get too het-up over Ade returning. AVB might have given the nod to Dempsey if fit - AVB tends not to throw player straight back in, with returning players.

Tiote will be back for the Geordies, you can count on that - what's the difference? Adebayor has had a very frustrating season and the fact of the matter is we need him back in the side as soon as and I sincerely hope that's AVB's mindset as well.

He hasn't even had that much football this season, for me there is no excuse unless of course AVB is non plussed about a quick return to the side - and that would worry me.

Dempsey is also flying to the US Monday, to Costa Rica Tuesday, playing a game Wednesday, flying back to the US Thursday, and flying back to the UK Thursday night/Friday

The thing is with Ade is that he could be if mentally atuned our passport to a certain 4th place and possibly 3rd.
On his day when his mind is right he is in the top 5 strikers in the UK. The first 20 minutes against the scum this season proved that until he went potty. What he did reminded me of Gazza in the 91 final when he wws overhyped.
However if we could get him into the right frame of mind he could terrorise any defence in the country.
Im hoping that Holtby may provide the spark that will ignite him, and if it does Spurs will rejoice , but deep down I have my doubts that he will ignite,but hope springs eternal

Apologies, I checked and we scored the same number of goals last season as we did in 06/07.

Our current striker situation makes you wish, we didn't sell a certain Russian striker who knew where the goal was however shit he was!
