Advantages: solid CB, strong, experienced, good height (1.9m), speaks French like the rest of our back line
Disadvantages: will be 28 in December, doesn't offer a whole lot going forward

I can't see us being too interested unless its a bargain price from Valencia, or we know that Kaboul is going to struggle this year. Would leave us with three CBs pushing 30 who will all want to start for one position next to Verts. I don't know if he would want to move to a non-CL team to have that much competition either.

FWIW over on bluemoon they reckon City are considering him to replace Kolo Toure, and they think his price tag is £7.75m

Prefer Toby. Younger, potential, and can play right back. Can then sell Naughton and so strengthen the squad. Smaller numbers, more quality/versatility which is what is wanted according to some itk.

Fair points, but if they grabbed him, I think it would be implied he's starting with verts. Kaboul will always have the nagging question of fitness and injury over his head, and Dawson is just not going to compare to Rami's ability.

Definitely agree with this..Even though rami might be amazing for a season or two and guarantee us some solid defense, Alderweireld can provide us with a backline for the future...Belgian backline duo? yes please

Most Valencia fans won't be sad to see him go. He wins the ball then goes on a 50m run with it and usually makes a bad attempt of dribbling and loses the ball. Then the opposing teams get a good counter attack opportunity. He can be very dangerous for his team, makes dumb mistakes quite often. But he had games where was perfect. Still, not worth the price being mentioned. Hope we spend that money on somebody younger with a lot of potential.

Not actually true, they see him as something of a rock in defence and he is a strong player and very good in the air. A far stronger and more suited player for the PL than Alderweireld, wouldn't be unhappy with him at the right perice and far far happier than getting TA

No, they (we) really don't. I'm not really active on any of valencia forums but from lurking on some of them:

"I think we are ok in the central midfield department for this season... We really need another top striker and a young up and coming central defender as Rami and Ruiz are not top quality nor is Ricardo costa"

"Rami has the potential to be great, but we all know his antics, unpredictable nature."

This last quote is how I feel about him.

I've never seen anyone call him rock solid. Maybe in FM forums.

Well he is popular with the Valencia fans here in Spain from what I have seen and read since he arrived and I have to say he has always put in decent performances when I've watched Valencia. He's not a world class CB for sure, but few players are but he would be a very good addition to a team like us with a classy CB option like Verts, a strong English type CB like Daws and a strong and developing really well put a bit off schedule by injury Kaboul. Our biggest weakness now is that we are still not good enough at defending corners and free kicks and that we have full backs that can't defend so having an extra strong defender rather than a ball playing stylish going forward but defensively weak is far more important imo.
Of course we might all like a Thiago Silva or a Mats Hummels that have it all, but we need a strong fourth option with Eunice needing time to ease back and regain his form and with Daws also having had a few injury issues over the years and I doubt with all the spending we have done we are looking at adding world class CB
Personally I'd rather we went for Tasci at Stuttgart or Papadopolous at Schalke, but we haven't been linked to either and for all I know may not be gettable or beyond the price we would wish to pay, but Rami I'd be happy with, far more so than the likes of Alderweireld and Sakho that we have been linked with

I agree that he would be useful for defending set pieces and I also like Papadopolous. Not to mention RAWK accusing us of stealing another player from them.
