Adriano offered to Spurs on a free

Brazilian superstar Adriano has been offered to Tottenham on a free transfer for the January transfer market.
Former Inter Milan striker Adriano, 27, is in the middle of a one-year contract with Brazilian club Flamengo but his representatives are hawking him around Europe.

They claim that Adriano has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave on a free transfer in January if a European club makes a move to sign him.
Adriano is keen to return to Europe to try and secure his place in the Brazil World Cup squad after injuries, form and fitness has left his place in danger.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp tracked Adriano before the Brazilian powerhouse left Inter Milan following a fall-out with the club because he missed training after going out to celebrate his birthday.
But Adriano, who has scored 27 goals in 47 caps for Brazil, is determined to put his wild days behind him and save his career.
Tottenham have already been sounded out as they believe they may be interested as they look to offload Russian flop Roman Pavlyuchenko in January.

They are interested in Real Madrid’s Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar while Celtic also like Robbie Keane so it leaves Redknapp ready to shuffle his pack.

That is what has left Adriano’s representatives believing Spurs may be a good first port of call before they try other English, Spanish and Italian clubs. Benfica and Atletico Madrid are also watching developments.
Manchester City and West Ham have been keen in the past but have failed to meet Adriano’s demands and that may be another sticking point.
Tottenham are also watching Club Brugge midfielder Vadis Odjidja, 20, after the holding player was tipped to become a regular for Belgium in their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

I know its the Mirror and needs to be taken with a tommy Hudd sized pinch of salt but a motivated Adriano would scare the bejesus out of Premiership defenders and i'd much rather he replace Pav (IF he goes) than KJH.

I'd take him.Yes, he's a lunatic, but he would be a great addition and would enable Pav to salvage his WC dream.

IF he is motivated is the big question here...

and IF he IS....I would think bigger clubs would come after him...

May be just another Mido or Jardel....so much talent..spoiled.

IF he is motivated how long would he stay motivated as no 4 striker?
Nonsense story anyway, just what we need, another striker.

If Man City couldn't meet his demands then how are we meant to?!

Anyway, not interested at all.

We've got three experienced premiership strikers in good form. We don't need to take a risk with someone like Adriano.

The guy seems to enjoy life and his football far more back home in Brazil. He should stay there.

There seems to be a recent history of Brazilians losing the plot. I think i'd have to say no to him too.

What actually did happen to Ronaldo in the WC final in 98? Did we ever find out about that?

I honestly think we could sell Pav in January and see out the rest of the season with 3 strikers. I cant imagine Adriano wanting to compete with Defoe, Keane and Crouch. We cant go wrong on a free transfer, but i cant imagine he'd want to fight for a place. I think we can wait until the summer before considering another striker.

it's clear that Pav isn't happy to be 4th striker, and might be Adriano as well if he comes.

but if there are a chance to get him for free or nominal fee, with Pav is excepted to leave in jan for around 10-12m, that's would be the business of the season, i know the competition for places needed to get our the best of them, but you know Harry prefers the trio, Pav doesn't offer anything to our starting IX or bench for now unless long term injury for one of our strikers, but he would remain bencher and don't think he would accept it.

I think we need to take that change, and use Pav money for top class CM.

You've got to be taking this piss surely?

About Ronaldo and the WC final:

There was even talk of poison and whispers about his turbulent love life.
Finally team doctor Lidio Toledo revealed the striker had been rushed to hospital after suffering a convulsion in his sleep but cleared to play after neurological and cardiac tests.

Ronaldo had a convulsion before the game

"We lost the World Cup but I won another cup - my life," Ronaldo later reflected.
"I don't remember what happened but I went to sleep and, like the doctor said, it seems I had a fit for about 30 or 40 seconds."

The most dramatic account came from Ronaldo's roommate Roberto Carlos.
He said: "Ronaldo was scared about what lay ahead. The pressure had got to him and he couldn't stop crying.
"If anything, it got worse because, at about four o'clock, he started being sick. That's when I called the team doctor and told him to get over to our room as fast as he could."
The Brazilian media demanded to know why Ronaldo had been allowed to play when his mind was clearly not on the game.

Team officials said he had been taken to hospital during the afternoon and his place in the team had been given to Edmundo.
When Zagalo addressed his side in the hotel he had reminded his players about 1962, when Brazil won the World Cup without the injured Pele.
But Ronaldo had later arrived at the Stade de France and declared himself fit to play.
Zagalo said after the game: "I kept thinking about taking him off.
"But he said he felt well enough to play and if I had not played Ronaldo after he said he was fit, I'd have been under even more criticism."
There were claims that team sponsors Nike had put pressure on Zagalo to play him. These were hotly denied.

The Ronaldo affair even resurfaced last year at a congressional inquiry into the finances of Brazilian football.
The player was called to give evidence, insisting the decision to play in the final had been entirely his own.
He was also asked whether it had been his job to mark Zidane at corners.
Ronaldo could not remember, but added with a smile that whoever it was had not done their job very well.

Why is Pav always referred to as a flop? He was bought by a manager/sporting director who was sacked soon after he joined. He had been playing 18 months without a break. I think that given a chance he would prove to be one of our best strikers. But will he get a chance before January? Unfortunately I doubt it. It will be a shame to see him go without him getting a real chance.

he sounds like a bit of a mercenary to me, would obviously be a great addition but wouldnt he upset the balance of the team.

The thing is, if Adriano really has got himself sorted out and really is offered to Spurs (two massive ifs there) then there is no way he will come in and be fourth choice. We won't need to worry about him losing motivation if he's motivated when he arrives, because if he is, Crouch aint got a hope in hell of keeping his place and neither does Keane.
